Skins on Map Redirect

Hiya All - Hiya PitBill - fun gaming with ya tonight!
Does anyone know why our skins would be sent slow from our map redirect - but maps are sent extremely fast?
I cross referenced what server packages are listed in the ini against the compressed files on the redirect and there is nothing missing. All skins have both the utx and the int file on the redirect.
Do Maps only redirect? Skins always sent from the server running the game?
Cheers!
8-)

is your server a linux server? its most likely case sensitivity..

I asked Chaos that while on the server. That was my 1st guess also. The maps and map related files downloaded extremely fast while every single skin package was very slow.
Hello COA's good to have ya back.

Hiya
I checked and the redirect is running on Linux
I did not change the case when I compressed them.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by case sensitivity?
They vary according to how they were created by the skinner - ie - Female1WooHoo2.int.uz, female1skinsbc.int.uz
The extension .uz is always lower case
Good to be back!

Redirect is always case sensitive. Caps should be caps etc. Also you don't need the int's for the skins, just the utx files.

Hiya
I removed the int files from the redirect.
I did not chnage the case of any files - just compressed them - and uploaded them to the redirect. The folder name in my ini for the redirect server is the same case.
This from the cpanel web logs - I do see skins being sent:
15 4 1.65% 208 0.33% /mapredirect/Male2SkinsCoA.utx.uz
16 4 1.65% 102 0.16% /mapredirect/conjunction.utx.uz
17 4 1.65% 76 0.12% /mapredirect/male1darthmaul.utx.uz
18 4 1.65% 124 0.20% /mapredirect/male2skinsgrim.utx.uz
Weird how a map will load in seconds - but skins take a long time?
I saw this setting in the unreal ini that defaults to False:
In this section:
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
AllowFastDownload=False
Not sure what that is for?
Not sure why that would make a difference since maps are sent very fast?

I prefer to call it a bug.

The caps should be same on ServerPackages as on redirect.
i.e:
Redirect: Male1skinsblaBla.utx.uz
ServerPackages=Male1skinsblaBla

I would assume that maps are sent fast even with that set to false because redirect is working. Setting it to true should only affect files being sent over unreal (i.e. NOT web redirect)
This from the cpanel web logs - I do see skins being sent:
15 4 1.65% 208 0.33% /mapredirect/Male2SkinsCoA.utx.uz
16 4 1.65% 102 0.16% /mapredirect/conjunction.utx.uz
17 4 1.65% 76 0.12% /mapredirect/male1darthmaul.utx.uz
18 4 1.65% 124 0.20% /mapredirect/male2skinsgrim.utx.uz
From that bit, I assume that the skins are being sent via webredirect and not just over unreal. I've never used web redirect nor cpanel, so I could be misreading that. If webredirect is working for both, then my only suggestion is that maybe specific file types have their speed throttled. That would be strange but I can't think of anything else.

Yep, bane's right about the fastdownloads, it only effects the files that aren't being transferred over webredirect

Ah ha! Looks like you guys are onto something.
In server packages
ServerPackages=Female1Skinsfun
on Redirect:
female1skinsfun.utx.uz
I am going through the list now to make corrections.
My eyes are going bonkers looking at this list
I would imagine you do not want to turn on fast non web redirect downloads - would be lag city then for the players . . .

Hmm, I wonder if you can implement a case search? So it would be at least less affected by that?

Oh I get it... So the players on the server don't lag.
IT IS SUDDENLY SO CLEAR!

Hiya - it was definitely the case issue. Looked through my list again and caught a few more case issues - corrected them. Deleted one that looked correct in both places but downloading slow still.
After all this - on a fresh install - downloaded all 58+ packages in 2 mins and 21 seconds . . .
Woot!

Very nice man!

But I still don't understand, why did the cases mess up?

Filenames on Linux are case sensitive.

"File.txt" is different from "file.txt" on linux and both can exist in the same directory.. wich causes alot of issues porting from windows to linux, or the other way if some guy decided to use two resources under the sameish filename

Yeah . . . and it was enough to make my eyes water . . . comparing file names - ini against the actual file name on the redirect . . .
