Why are they separated?

UnrealShare can be used by licensees, UnrealI not.

So that's like Legend and U2 in Unreal II? Legend can be used by licensees, U2 can't? Though the package itself can be renamed, in UT2004 this is called "gameplay".

So, according to the copyright or w/e, codes from UnrealI shouldn't even be opened by the end-user?

No, they can't be sold. When you buy UE1, you get UnrealShare.u, but not UnrealI.u.

So if I make a new game using U1 engine (for example "ThexDarksider Ex Machina", lol) and decide to sell it $0.99 per CD (lol again), I can include UnrealShare.u, but NOT UnrealI.u?

Lol ty.

Another question... why did Epic make one part [partially] open and the other part not?

Because when you license the Engine, you don't license the Game. You can make a strategy game out of UE1, so you wouldn't need UnrealI with all their guns and stuff. And that way it costs you less!

That's very generous of Epic. ;P

The separation is probably a relic from the past, from the time Epic planned to release a shareware version of Unreal (Hence the name UnrealShare.u) The UnrealShare.u file should have only the content used by the first shareware levels, UnrealI (Unreal roman number 1.u) the rest.
