Custom Skins on Server

Post by ChaoS(CoA) »

Hiya

I loaded 2 skinpacks on my Unreal server - version 227e

Also manually loaded the same on my PC as did my clan mate - but we do not see them.

Is there a trick to getting them to display? I see them only at the skin selection screen when you are setting up your player.

Hey thanks

I took your hint and ran with it. :D

In [Engine.GameEngine]

I need to add the skin names I added.

Is it just this one place?

Yeap. Strange the skin's Readme doesn't state it... Or you didn't read the readme ;)

Hiya - thanks for the assistance

Nothing in the readme but this:

I've seperated the .int and..utx files for easy installation.

The .int files go into Unreal's System folder.
The .utx files go into Unreal's Texture folder.

Looks like instructions just for the client

You need to add the Custom skinnames in the textures folder to server packages.
IE,
ServerPackages=male2PlasmaMan.utx
some skin packs allow you to use the skin package name,
but some require you add each individual skin name.
Just remember this:
The more skins you have the longer the download takes for clients.

Yeppers

However - i have a redirect setup with the game server host.

We were testing the server for the 1st time last night and it was amazingly fast . . .

I have it set for "All" to be able to join so players downloading from the server running the game may be slow. The redirect is super fast.

LOL  I remember when I first played Unreal. Spent huge amounts of time downloading skins and such. I began to wonder if I would ever actually get to play against someone online.

ServerPackages=male2PlasmaMan.utx
UTX? In Server Packages?! Only code goes into server packages, not textures or anything! Besides, you don't need the extension.

Indeed, that's the problem of Unreal's netcode. You have to download all the skin packs on the server to be able to play, whether there is anyone on the server with the skin or not. In UE2, it's easier, you just see the default character if you don't have the skin, and normal skin if you have it, and server admins don't need to be bothered with them at all. Same goes for music packages.

Your right it was only an example,
but you do need the skin name added to packages for others to see online that do not have the skin installed.
I have several skins of other players on my server and players don't see them unless the skin name is added to serverpackages.

Hi

I added them all using the web admin that comes with 227e

However - I did edit the .ini - adding 2 manually

Now when I select "Defaults" in webadmin I get this in the web browser:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Ack . . .

Do you know how I can fix this?

Whew.

LOL

I went back in and deleted those 2 lines I added manually and the "Defaults" section in web adminworks again.

Does that mean I cant edit that section in the ini manually?

Speaking of web admin,
Why does web admin show up as a client on server when it actually is not?

Hiya

I think I know the answer to that

It's because of the server console. The admin can chat with the players.

I am having a weird issue now.

The Server packages that show in the Defaults section of the web admin do match the actual ini.

If I make the chnages manually - I cannot view the defaults section in the web admin?

Is there a way to re-set the web admin?

Its like 2 maps are cross referenced? I add one package - another disappears?

Hmmm

I deleted from the web admin all but the server packages that are installed by default - added them all back inusing the web admin - restarted the current - and the server crashed.

Yikes

Must have something to do with the web admin being confused.

Any ideas how to reset it?

Ok - I restored a backup ini and now the server is running again.

I re-added all the skins server packages.

The same issue remains.

I add male3skinsred

Everything ok

I then add on the next line:

Male3Skinssquad

This takes the place of male3skinsred in the list of server packages (this happens after I switch to a different section in web admin - and then click back to defaults)

I add a new server package Male3Spawn after Male3Skinssquad

Then both Male3Skinssquad and male3skinsred disappear from the list of serverpackages.

Any idea what to do?

If I try to edit the ini directly either I lose the ability to view the "defaults" section in the ini or the server crashes

Are you sure you're adding the packages in the right order? As otherwise it won't work, as it might depend on something that is down the list, and get confused.

You can just edit the ini manually, but after you have edited it, make sure you reboot the server so server reloads the configures from the ini.

Hiya

I have stopped and restarted the server many times. no go.

When I edit it manually I can no longer go to "Defaults" in the web admin.

I get:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Then I can no longer use that entire section of web admin.

I am thinking the web admin stores info somewhere and what it has does not match with what is in the ini.

If I were to now go in and delete the lines I added manually - I would be able to once again pull up the "Defaults" section.

arrrrrrrgh

;D

PS - I have deleted temp internet files and tried this on 3 different pooters and its the same thing

Here is one - I stopped the server - edited the ini manually to add all the serverpackages I need. Restarted it - cannot get to defaults page.

What is interesting is that I restart the server - I get one big time stamped log - and then 9 small 8 kb ones. The 8 kb ones end with this:

Log: Server Package: male2skinsgrim
Log: File loaded male2skinsgrim
Log: 619.0ms Loading: Package male2skinsgrim
Log: Server Package: male3fragg
Log: File loaded male3fragg
Log: 620.0ms Loading: Package male3fragg
Log: Server Package: Male3HOSfx
Log: File loaded Male3HOSfx

Is it just that the webadmin can only handle X number of entries in server packages?

I can paste these addresses into the browser and still get there manually:

IP-ADDRESS/MapLinksPage

IP-ADDRESS/Mod_UWebAdmin.RepPageConfig

IP-ADDRESS/Mod_UWebAdmin.DMPageConfig

IP-ADDRESS/Mod_UWebAdmin.RepPageConfig

Er? You shouldn't need WebAdmin if your using a server host with a control panel to turn the server on/off.

I have that of course.

I have run web servers from ut2004 up to our present ut3 clan server.

To me I very much enjoy the control provided by web admin. When I found out that 227e had web admin - it was a huge plus - so much so that I put up the unreal 1 server.

Not a real big fan of command line stuff
