Need help with display

Post by Blair »

Hi all I need some help with setting up Unreal 1. I had to reformat my HD and am in the process of reinstalling some of my games. For my old game computer I have a P-III 700 MHz, Win 98, an ATi Rage Fury video card and a Sound Blaster Pro sound card. When I first installed Unreal years ago I didn’t like the display and I can’t remember what I did to change it. I am thinking Open GL maybe or Glide but it was back in 99 and it’s been so long I forgot what I did before. Thanks.

you should maybe help me (and very few others) gain voices to support a dual VC++ installer for 227
(using the old compiler and new compiler to support both new && old OS)

Thanks guys I now am able to play Unreal again! I did download the 227 patch and had the same problem some others posted here. It will not support 98. Or maybe I did not download the right one (UnrealPatch227eWin.zip)? Anyway if another is out there I would be happy to give it a try.

thanks again! Blair

THe new compiler doesnt seem to support win98, win2k works fine though, not much we can do.. i'll try to dig a compiler option up though.

if we revert the compiler to VS2003 it should work fine, but we're using VS2008 atm, wich doesn't support win98 period, even with hacks. And i don't like using hacks. VS2005 supports 9x with some vicious hacks.. This is from google searching

I'm not sure if we want to lose the code optimization from allowing win98 support..

Is there any reason (other than involving more work and online storage) why you can't just make two binaries, one optimized for XP/Vista, the other Win98 compatible? You're talking about the actual .exe and .dll files, and not just compiling the unreal packages, right? I don't see how doing that could create incompatibility between the two versions or anything, since they should be using the same network protocol.
