Hello, Hello.
I just installed UnrealGold, how do I know what version it is ?
226,226b ? is there one that had 226Final ?
Date of Purchase ?
Did they ALL come with 226b ? the ingame browser says 226.
And what does the 226Final do/take of ?
Is that an official Epic patch ?

Thats all pretty much confusing, eh?

UGold is 226b. Always.
Published by: Infogrames
Developed by: Epic Games / Lgend Entertainment
Genre: Compilation
Number of Players: 1-16
Release Date:
US: January 21, 2000
Thing is, that 226b is "not" necessarily is worse than 226f. Indeed 226b is different because made by Legend. Indeed 226b seems to be more advanced than 226f in many cases.
The D3D Renderer is better and Server seems to work better also.
Unfortunately conformed against 225- which explains the existing incompatibility between 226f (Unreal Classic) and UnrealGold - or nowadays between 227 and 226f (I conformed 227 against UGold because more Players nowadays use UGold or Anthology which contains UGold).
226f can not be applied to UnrealGold.
Unreal 226f:
Latest Version of Unreal
Unreal 226Final
Last Updated: 7/13/2000
You maybe remember the petition which was necessary to force Epic to make 226f. But 226f contained many bugs, especially for Servers. This is the reason most people use 225 for servers and 226 for playing (or now 227)
226b can not be applied to UnrealClassic (but to the 224 Version of Return to Napali).

Adding to this a bit.
Since the editor does not work because of the missing files like, Threed32.ocx, Comctl32.ocx and so on, The fix for this is teh same
as the one for Unreal, which is UnrealEdFix4 ?
(Okay so they messed up the editor install on the Unreal CD, which I find hard to do if that is wha they used to make teh game,
But to mess it up on Unreal Gold to ? Haha! (:
I also noticed that when looking for patches for Unreal Gold, the official site refers to a 226b patch, So I thought that my UnrealGold would haev been just "226",
They also "said" that the Unreal226Final" had updated and better D3D and other things , this is not true ?
My ultimate goal here is no be compatible with 225 servers, AND to
get the editor working, and be compatible too, not having to worry about the LevelSummary Etc Etc junk.
Is it possible to revert my UnrealGold back to 225F ?..
I knew I should have installed my good old Unreal, which I still have,
I never had problems with the editor, the only problem I had back then was the good Ol' Tilde memory crash, every once in a while but not often.
And the only thing I like about UnrealGold is the Console, which when I used the program or change to make Unreal have the UT style, cheat detectors didn't like it to much.
Maybe I'll just install Unreal.. Patch my butt to 225f and more than likely be good to go.....
I liked 225F.
UnrealGold really SUCKS for infiltration because you can't get to the menu with all the settings, you have to edit...unless you're fast on the join screen in the Classic version..

The fix just adds and registers some missing components, which were forgotten- or maybe just became necessary on newer OS because not installed automatically there. Not sure, never tried to figure out.

It is, but 226b version seemed still to be better, because they fixed f.e. the masked textures problem in it.

If you want 225f you need to install "classic" version. Only 227 patch can be applied to all versions- while killing RTNP with that and using UED2- but you are probably aware about that

Well Let me be clear, maybe you can elaborate just a tad.
227 kills RTNP ?
does NOT 225 work with RTNP ?
what's that about UED 2 ?
While we're on the subject of RTNP, in the offical patch section, what is the UnrealRtNPPatch.exe used for ? only the mission add on ?
or UnrealGold too ? what does she do ?
and hopefully lastly, I'm going to install Unreal and 225f ,
but for my UnrealGold should I upgrade to 226b, or the 226final (weblinks) ?, sounds like you like the 226b.....
Or I guess I could use fix4 and do what ever I want then use one of those map converters but I don't trust them...
I always knew 225f was good...Lol..

227 Does not kill RTNP. 227 is not (yet) compatible with UGold (RTNP). It's because creating multiply patches/installs for UGold and UClassic is not worth the effort. It can not be one patch with one install, since Epic did not allow Smirftsch to include UPak (RTNP file) in patch which can be applied to regular Unreal. RTNP/UGOLD version will come once patch is finished.
UED2 is included in 227 patch.

227 kills RTNP ?
Raven answered that already, its a question which was often asked. There will be a second 227 patch for UGold/Anthology which works with RTNP then.
Also you might want to have a look here:
http://www.oldunreal.com/wiki/index.php?title=Oldunreal_227_FAQ
does NOT 225 work with RTNP ?
what's that about UED 2 ?
Nope. 225 is for Unreal Classic only. But there is a expansion set available of RTNP which is version 224 and can be applied to Unreal Classic.
227 is using UED2 as editor, its a fixed version of the editor used in UT.
While we're on the subject of RTNP, in the offical patch section, what is the UnrealRtNPPatch.exe used for ? only the mission add on ?

Its for the 224 version of RTNP.

Your UnrealGold is 226b already. No patch needed.
Like 226b? Well its at least a bit better than 226f.
I only use 227. But I think that's obvious

The UED2/UT Editor, if used does that LevelSummary and stuff, so making it not compatible with 225 right ?
What is fixed in UED2 that was wring in Ued 1. ?
The 226b and 226Final can be applied to BOTH, UnrealGold and Unreal ?
ALL UnrealGolds came with 226b out of the box ?
I keep looking for "b" but in mine and my logs and .ini's it only says 226..So that is why I ask...

Yes, but this incompatibility was created by Epic AFAIK. No going back

. UED1 was partially written in Basic (not 100% sure), while UED2 is more stable and advanced. Creating anything in UED2 is just easier.

Yes. But there is somewhere a method or tool to make it compatible again. Forgot the details, my brain is fried with meds atm...
What is fixed in UED2 that was wring in Ued 1. ?
UED1 was made with VisualBasic and lacks a lot of features compared with UED2. Aside this nothing to add to what Raven said

No, 226b only UGold 226f only to Unreal.
ALL UnrealGolds came with 226b out of the box ?

Yes, it only shows 226. A subversion history like "a,b,c" etc was only added to 227. The "b" was somewhat not official or just mentioned somewhere. Not sure anymore. To long ago, can't remember.

You sick ?
That's wierd because 226b is available as an update, but if you look at gold, It's like there was never any updates for it.
OR UnrealGold links you back to Unreal.

Yes, I am. But at least I'm still alive, so could be worse
Guess thats just because they missed something when creating Gold. Legend made the same "mistake" as Epic. They left the community when creating the patches and didn't ask back. So many things could have been fixed if they would have listened and worked with the community. Just added some minor fixes here and there in an additional patch. Fixed the network incompatibility between Gold and 226f, etc., etc.
A thing 227 now changed
