A little UT3 curiosity

I was reading up on UT3 and all of the old stuff they brought back, like the stinger (HECK YEAH), the Krall, and four old UT99 songs. But two things keep stabbing me in the brain, demanding answers:
1) Are there Skaarj in UT3? I mean, there HAS to be Skaarj. They're the staple of the Unreal series, yet I can't find any info about the Skaarj returning in UT3.
2) Is there an actual single player mode? I mean like Unreal 1 and 2 had?
I'd like to figure this stuff out, as I can't rent the game because I have neither an XBox 360, PS3, or a computer able to play it (actually I WOULD be able to play it with all the settings turned all the way down, but I need an NVidia 6200+ video card before I can do that).
I would really appreciate an answer.

*dies*
It's official, UT3 is trash.
I'm gonna go play ut2k4.
EDIT: Ah, I see. The got rid of the Skaarj and replaced them with their filthy Krall minions, who ironically look they could devour a Skaarj and sound like freaking Satan.
Why didn't they ever make the skaarj that cool!? CURSE YOU, EPIC!!
Sorry, another Anti-Epic rant.

Let's just hope that Unreal³ will come out with the most awesomestest Skaarj evar (that is single player)!

Yeah, but for now, let's just hope they don't forget about the Skaarj completely.

Skaarj should be back in U3 (not UT3) cuz every Unreal must have Skaarj. And not new UT's, that's garbage. I mean, SP U3 when it comes out. Or IF it comes out...

I thought the kraal looked pretty cool, even if they actually looks meaner than skaarjs.
reminds me of the Izarians, the kraal-like blue monsters from u2
From what i listened, i can tell UT3 remixes from UT99 songs are rubbish, except the main Unreal Tournament Theme. The Go Down remixe, the mech8 remix, are just WRONG.

1) No Skaarj. UT3 is humans... and bones/bots only game.
2) No, it's a sequence of tournament matches with cutscenes.
Darksider, U3 will be... Or AT LEAST one other Unreal game. But 95% that there will be at least 2. Epic has officially confirmed that they have more Unreal plans and are not going to give up on them soon.

Epic is now concentrating its main efforts on the Gears of War series, and all the huge $$ that come from the consoles, like the XBox360.
It's my opinion that UT3 was released for the mappers and modders of the very dedicated (and quite talented) Unreal community. Most of the Epic staff that's been around since the beginning are now all working on Gears of War. UT3 is actually headed by a peep who got his start in the original UT lan tourney circles, and quite a few of the others were winners of the previous Make Something Unreal contests, or are right out of the modding communities.
It's almost like with Unreal 1. There's more peeps playing with the editor and engine than actually play the game. There's not too many games out there that allow full use of every feature the game has. Sure, you may not be allowed to publish for $$, but you do get to play with cutting edge technology like the Kismet and Materials editors.
For that I'm thankful to Epic. Lots of players online or not.

Not quite, not the
series, but only GoW2, with a promise that directly afterwards they will think of something Unreal.

There will be another Unreal game : Epic has a contract to do one more with Midway.

What?! Really?! Why did you hold off on saying that on the other thread talking about Unreal 3?
Oh, and the Krall in UT3 don't even look like ex-minions. They look they they should be enslaving races. If I saw a Skaarj walk by me, I'd be like "Wow, that guy's cool". But if I saw a UT3 Krall walk by me, I'd be like "RUN FOR THE FREAKING HILLS!" and hide.
But seriously, if Epic could make the Krall look that cool, imagine what they could have made the Skaarj look like. Not those small ones from U1, nor the huge, bulky Skaarj from U2 or the tall, slim ones from UT2K4. They would probably look like something out of my nightmares.
Hey, waitaminnut, if someone could put an exact replica of Master Chief in UT3, then maybe someone could model their own rendition of the Skaarj. Someone get to it, asap!

I think U2 Skaarjs are close to original skaarjs. They should have made them faster and deadlier. UT2004's were too slim. Anyway, I find all of these skaarjs variations cool, and if I didn't mention the midway thing before, that's because i may not have noticed the other topic.

Ah I see.
Oh yeah, I just found something out. I was messing around on Google looking up what kind of skins people made for UT3, and I stumbled into Wikipedia to read a UT3 article. Then, with curiosity getting the best of me, I searched up Epic Games on there and found out that Epic is based in Cary, North Carolina. Ironically, I just
happen to live in North Carolina, and that I just
happen to be going to Chapel Hill (which just
happens to be near the town of Cary) this month for a doctor's appointment. Maybe I'll ask my parents to stop by Cary to have a look at Epic's headquarters, lol

Why can't Krall be an enslaving race, eh? Izarians enslaved one planet, and Skaarj then enslaved them, so probably Skaarj are just cooler than Krall, even though Krall are tough too.

Both Skaarj and Krall are cool.

Actually, you're right GreatEmerald. There was a map pack where a bunch of Krall fought against the Skaarj and were doing a pretty good job fighting them. I can't remember what it was called, but it was for OldSkool.
However, Krall don't play that much of a big part in the Unreal series. The only game they've been in before UT3 was Unreal 1. I guess the reason Epic replaced the Skaarj with the Krall this time around was because they're going to give the Krall a major part alongside the Skaarj in future games.

A Halo master chief ... lol ... there IS one !!
http://unrealtournament2004.filefront.com/file/Master_chief_HALO_3;92540
It looks really good.
There's also an "over the shoulder" camera mutator, so you can look at it while you play.
http://unrealtournament2004.filefront.com/file/ActionCam;88759
And it works fantastic. Enjoy !!
PS. Don't let the UT2004 mentioned in link fool you. This site is FileFront's UT3 central.

Thanks for the offer Buster, but I don't really own UT3. And you'll probably hate me for this, but I wish I did. My friend bought UT3 for his 360 and I played it. Honestly, I don't know why you guys hate it so much. To tell you the truth, I really liked it. It's like UT99, but different. It's got a new, yet oddly nostalgic feel about it. The weapons are awesome and it's a cool game. In my opinion, it deserves more sales than what it got.
The lack of Skaarj left me unfazed, as the Krall are just as cool. I even mistook a Krall to be a Skaarj cause they're so similar (though, it was weird seeing a Krall tear a guy apart with his bare hands/claws when previously they were small, puny reptiles who attacked you with staffs in Unreal 1).
I barely got to see most of the levels, but from what I've seen, it's pretty good, although I won't be happy if Epic releases another UT. Currently, there are two adventure games (not including expansions and mods) and three tournament games (not including UT2K3 and the Championships). In order to balance it out, I suspect the next game to return to the style of gameplay associated with Unreal 1 (I still don't know the word for it...) while at the same time giving it a unique feel to it like UT3 did with the UT series.
Forget what I said about Epic ignoring Unreal's roots. With UT3, they dug up the roots and grafted them to the tree, if you know what I mean (if not, I mean they took some of the key features that made Unreal 1 and UT99 unique and brought them back while also improving them). I nearly exploded with joy when I figured out they replaced the shield packs with the good old Shield Belt. AND they brought back the thighpads. Really, this is what we Unreal fans have been begging for (or at least what
I was begging for).
If you all wanna crucify me for liking UT3, then go ahead

I won't. I really like UT3. In fact, I like it abit better than UT2004, but mostly because of all the install issues I had with UT2004. That, and the fact that the UT3 engine/editor is the best ever made in the history of gaming. Epic did a fantastic job making that baby. Three cheers !!

I feel strange without having tried UT3

But that bloom effect is odd, really overused. The first thing I'll do after installing the demo is try and find a way to turn it off

And I might buy it after the price and the stability settles... But not now, no way.

I've played U1, UT99, UT2k3 and UT2k4. And I like only U1 and UT99. So I'm not trying UT3. Maybe I install U2, but I probably won't be as interested as in U1 and UT99.
