Re: Master Server Down In Eastern US
Oh man, why do I bother with this? My whole long message dissapeared right now thanks to the useless keyshortcuts and when I tried to copy, bah it loaded some other page.
I wanted to say that master server for daikatana is there now for few days and for other games and for Unreal nothing yet..........
As for the ut offtopic:
http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1220558040/18#18
I have played quakeworld and quake3, quakeworld rather sucks compared to vanilla quake dm, but whatever. And ut2004 is nothing like that. Oh and skill? I can own people on quake3 very easily, it's not hard to learn, so I dunno what are you talking about.
I prefer more realistic feel than the over cartoonish cheesy graphics and feeling like if I was shooting from the toys, still ut3 is not realistic, it's just made the right way. If you can't handle people impact killing you, then it's your problem, they can be handed very well. And finally the weapon is usefull, compared to the lame shieldgun from previous games. Ut2004 was created for the masses who doesn't understand dm at all.......ut2003 did it better even. And stop saying ut2003 is beta for ut2004, it isn't, ut2004 was not meant to be released even, it's just only for this marketting, ut3 had bad marketting though and that's the reason why the game is not popular and also people bitching about it and making players leave. I have bought the game and I don't regret it at all. And if you don't like the maps you can play some classics and you will see they play much better on ut3.
And ut3 is very well optimised (the engine) compared to most of today games. Funny though that some smaller maps like Deck or Arsenal(most hard on FPS) are FPS drainage for me, when the large outdoor maps run smooth for me. For many others it's the opposite.

"Master Server Down In Eastern US"
I hardly see what that has to do with "lul ut3 rulez u suk noob" (a rough translation imo), UT3's cool, UT2004's cool, people all have different perspectives. While I think your opinion is quite interesting, and you obviously know more than me on the subject, it doesn't really pertain to the thread. No offense.

Oh well, that was my last reply on the off topic, I said it better in the previous message which got deleted which I didn't submit.
And as I said, other master servers are running while the default gamespy one for unreal is not.
It caused two people give up on it because their serevrs didn't appear on other master serevrs than gamespy.

Re: Master Server Down In Eastern US
Well, first of all Google isn't an all-knowing wizard. If you enter unreal 1, Google will search for unreal and 1, but NOT Unreal 1. You have to enter "unreal 1" to find what you need. Imagine how many people who play UT3 refer to it just as "unreal 3" because they haven't even heard of real Unreals. So Google just shows what everyone want to see. And I don't see a single UT3 site when I enter "unreal 1".I swear to god, I will key the phrase 'Unreal 1' into Google, and get only 1 or 2 related results and the rest would be UT3.
The only reason Unreal 1 should get this pitiful amount of recognition is if Epic makes a game that feels exactly like, plays exactly like, is exactly as moddable, and is actually related to, Unreal 1. Alas, that's not gonna happen apparently. Maybe the pitiful sales of UT3 will cause them to open their eyes and see what they're doing wrong. I mean, the Unreal Tournament series was okay up until 2k4, and with UT3, it's obvious that they're pushing it.
Even GameSpy is in this same mindset as Epic. Pretty soon, all support for Unreal 1 will be totally gone and Unreal 1 will fall into waste, while Epic still totes around their Unreal Tournaments.
If Epic would of created an exact copy of Unreal, first of all it would be named "Unreal 3", not "Unreal Tournament 3". Second, absolutely no one would play it. Everyone from Unreal 1 community would stick with U1 as their PCs couldn't manage UE3 graphics. And new players wouldn't see anything interesting in that, as it would be just a clone.
Epic never concentrated solely on UTs. Sure, it's the most profitable enterprise, but they never forget the other branches - remember how they released UC2, even if UC1 was a total failure, and what happened? UC2 is the best game on XBox! I'm sure Epic will consider U3, UC3 and so on.
And what's with the implies that they won't put the Master on again? GameSpy is working on it. It should be on soon. No one is trying to turn off Unreal's servers on purpose.
And yes, U1 players love U1, UT players love UT, U2XMP players love U2XMP, UT2003 players love UT2003, UT2004 players love UT2004, UT3 players love UT3, UC1 players love UC1, UC2 players love UC2, and everyone wants Epic to make a game identical to their favourite one. But that wouldn't be practical. So discussion whether one or other version is better is useless.

Maybe they forgot to put back master0.gamespy.com and they put back only master.gamespy.com, someone needs to tell them. Because at daikatana it works now. They should all it back to default fast, before players will stop having interest.
And I don't want the games to be identical to my favourite ganme which is still Unreal. I judge the game by itself for me.

It's back again or something, I could query master0.gamespy.com
Finally they took it back? (forget what I said, now it says it fails again
)
And nobody can say: "That game is bad" following your theory, so yeah, then why putting up usless anti ut3 posts here in first place?
I said my opinion about ut2004 then and more hardcore gamers like ut3 more and think about ut2004 the same way as I do.

Yeap, respect UT3 too.so yeah, then why putting up usless anti ut3 posts here in first place?
Nope. It's solely up to the person playing, not how long you play or anything else. You just feel good in one game, and feel worse in another. And there are still more UT2004 servers than UT3.I said my opinion about ut2004 then and more hardcore gamers like ut3 more and think about ut2004 the same way as I do.
By the way, tried Chaos UT2? Now THAT'S what I call toy weapons!

But chaosut is chaosut, chaosut is more fun for me than usual ut2004 anyway, except some bad maps.
Well, the hardcore gamers I know and I actually talk about prefer ut3 over ut2004. Only they are relatively harder to find and don't talk in forums that much.
Ok back to topic please..........

Re: Master Server Down In Eastern US
This is changing topic a lot...
Look guys, IMO, if they wanted to pull the master server down, they would do it and it would NEVER work. And, as you see, it sometimes works a bit, and mostly no. But if they pulled it down forever, intentionally, it would never work.
And, off-topic, I personally like eating my dog's shit better than UT2k3, UT2k4 or UT3. It's stinky piece of rolling over dog shit. I used to play UT2k3 a bit, but only a few maps off-line. I've never, *NEVER*, played anything from Unreal/UT series EXCEPT U1 with other people on multiplayer. I tried to play UT but I have 56k dial-up connection so I couldn't download the whole shitloads of data. I would rather run over myself with my dad's car than play UT2k3/UT2k4/UT3 on multiplayer. And I didn't install UT3. And I will not. U1, UT99 or nothing.
(Just to mention, Deus Ex and other games on Unreal engine are not bad, but I never played them on multiplayer.)
I think even Undying is Unreal engine, I forgot where did I put the CD...

That site desperately needs an update. Many of the listed servers are no longer responding or have been moved to a different IP.Well, then you can't say that it's not good as it IS good for others that play those games.
And hah, see this: http://unreal1.com/
By the way: Gamespy Lite for Unreal shows servers again. It looks like Gamespy finally brought it back online.

At this time (10:15 GMT) the master0.gamespy.com is continuing to respond with a list.
I've been watching closely what the gamespy domains resolve to and it seems gamespy is no longer using the original IP (207.38.11.34) for master0.gamespy.com and changed the domain to resolve to the current IP for master.gamespy.com (207.38.11.174). So game servers that uplinked to master.gamespy.com would already be listed, and those that aren't need their administrators to switch levels (if not timed game) so their uplink resolves to the new master server IP for master0.gamespy.com.
Normally gamespy always resolved both master server domains to the original IP, but I guess during their maintanence/changes they either forgot or did not plan to change the server for master0.gamespy.com to fix the problem.

Hi guys, as for myself and my own server (|*JeAnRuSs*| HARD COOP GAMER), I've decided to list it to both (master0.gamespy.com and master.gamespy.com). When I did that, last night, it became listed everywhere where it needed to be... That, for all it's worth, since not much player have the patience to come play on it, since I specialise my server in multiple monsters and the download is quite huge.
Hoping the community will become more "patient"...
Bye for now!

Phew.....what a horrible few days that was :-/
Thank god everything is now ok.
I think this is a reminder of how fragile our community is....dictated by just one aspect.....the server query.
Can anything be done to eradicate this reliance on Gamespy?

I was thinking along the lines of the casual 225f/gold user, who fires his/her Unreal up to find...like the last week, that there are no visible servers.
All the Jolt servers are using 227e with the alternative master servers...however this is useless for the 225f user who doesn`t have a clue about 227 or the Unreal ini.

When 227f comes out, I think it should have all of those backup master servers listed in Unreal.ini by default, and it should probably have a menu ON A VISIBLE PLACE
that shows a list of all master servers and that on that menu the user is able to list new master servers and delete old ones if it's taking too long to query. Just a suggestion.
