Agreed. I don't know why they would even do this, seeing as Unreal's selling on steam, and was bundled with anthology. It's not like this game hasn't made any revenue recently.

Though I have to say, this has happened quite a lot in the past. I can clearly recall at least three occasions in the past two years where everyone was hanging around in servers claiming it was "doomsday" (especially on coop and inf), the problem was resolved within a week and nobody spoke of the hype again. Wishful thinking, right?

Yeah i hope its up soon. Its srarting to worry me lol.

Its been longer than usual

Some recent testing:

Querying master0.gamespy.com. fails (Master0 is the Unreal 1 default)
Querying master.gamespy.com succeeds and lists some servers.
Querying unreal.gamespy.com fails.

well hyper, if you agree i gonna put your server in news, so anyone with 227 can update his ini to have a backup server.
I also spoke with SA|Digimes, he agreed to put a masterserver up on his high bandwidth Euro gameserver- so we should have 2 backup servers soon

But don't forget that the TNN master is available as well. It was not hit by the server issues there.

Well if you ask me, it's a god d*mn conspiracy. TNN AND Cr*pspy going down at the same time? I think it's more than just a coincidence...

GameSpy Master Server issues have been reported and our engineers are working on this issue. It is not necessary to report this problem. The game makers are working with our engineers to resolve this as quickly as possible. Thank you!

Btw, unreal.epicgames.com works, it's the one used for UT but it has positive query, the default ones master and www doesn't work obviously.

like i said in a recent post which was rudely locked by Hyper...Unreal is dieing and 227f should really just get released asap....which was why i started that topic actually....but i guess Hyper doesn't want 227f to be released....oh well....we all knew this game was going to die sooner or later

battlefield 2142 has the same server issue as unreal{They use gspy too}, only 1/10th the servers show up- if at all, but my favorites list is full of... empty servers that are indeed running, but not on the list.

and shivaxi, it's not quite done, we don't rush releases because people ask us to.. we want to take our time to make quality releases, debugging and fixing everything that we can find and know about

with the help of SA|Digimes who is running infiltration servers for years now I was able to set up a new masterserver:

(big digi!!!!)

and Hyper.nl's experimental server:
hyper.dnsalias.net
(another big hyper!!!)

So we have now 2 backup servers, which can be added:

so 2 of the most reliable people I know from the unreal community are helping us again over this bad time

Regardless of the backups, however, there were still only 10 players and 9 servers in Unreal last time I checked (which was about 5 minutes ago). There were absolutely no players in coop. The only occupied servers were the Infiltration and Serpentine servers (and Zora's server, which I joined to experience the emptiness)

Are those master servers actually used even a bit? Or they are completely empty at the moment?

master.oldunreal.com is brand new, we rely on you guys out there to spread the word to users and server admins for these to be useful.

So get to work please.

I noticed at least 22 game servers that can be listed on TNN and/or Hyper's master (22:30 GMT). Finally, the amount of game servers uplinking to backups is improving. Now we need to get the word out better to players using old clients on how to query the backups. The oldunreal master server reference is not getting out there with evidence showing it has been largely ignored, unknown, or not simple enough.

Oldunreal should have an updated master server reference loaded with appropriate meta-data and good introduction body paragraph for google to spider. In addition, links to the updated reference should be linked in multiple places to increase the chances of being found. Also, maybe somebody could design a master server update executable that scans the Unreal.ini file for players that know little about INI file editing.

Howdy ya'll. Props to Digi coming through and to the rest of you keeping the game alive. I have been gone a few years and knew the following would thin out but I was a little suprised to not find the master server now that I have cable again.

so far 17 servers are bound to new masterserver. Looks good

using Hyper's MasterServer install, {hLk} is now running a master server as well. The server rarely if ever goes down (hosts the hlk site), short of maintenance or extended power outage (2-3x a yr).
