Im using 225. I edited the config myself.
However if one or two MS is down out of the 3 doesnt it fail to get the list all together? or is that fixed in 227? Mine are uplinking to the lot anyway.

Hi Hyper.
I was thinking along the lines of the casual 225f/gold user,who fires his/her Unreal up to find...like the last week,that there are no visible servers.
All the Jolt servers are using 227e with the alternative master servers...however this is useless for the 225f user who doesn`t have a clue about 227 or the Unreal ini.

If there is a question, then it is a question for which you already know the answer...
There is not much we can do except trying to make 227 as popular as possible, which contains the necessary fall backs and for those who don't want 227 for whatever reason we have to point them here for the updates and most recent info for updating the masterservers in the ini.
Once 227f is out I'll try to announce it as much as possible- and I guess anyone who is really willing to play will find a link to this page, other active community pages (like hypers f.e.), or 227, even Epic's update page links here.
Thats all we can do. Spread the word.

Hi guys, as for myself and my own server (|*JeAnRuSs*| HARD COOP GAMER), I've decided to list it to both (master0.gamespy.com and master.gamespy.com). When I did that, last night, it became listed everywhere where it needed to be... That, for all it's worth, since not much player have the patience to come play on it, since I specialise my server in multiple monsters and the download is quite huge.
Hoping the community will become more "patient"...

Let me find that little bit again, It is a GREAT question, and I didn't really see it answered, unless it didn't have a clear answer or basically said we can't do anything, just use 227, and post/ spread the word, which really means the answer to his question is, those people are SOL.. :=(

There is nothing we can do, the problem lies within the client and unless modifying the client itself it can't be done. 227 includes already more servers (which explains the delay ugold users complain about when installing 227 and querying the serverlist) and a upgrade link to this page here. Ugold indeed ONLY supports gamespy, which explains the speed advantage it has, but clearly shows its disadvantage in these cases.
If someone would have an other idea, I'd be more than happy, but in my eyes there is no way, except forcing gamespy to link to our alternate servers once they go down again, which is more than very very unlikely.

I think the best we can do is to spread the word. Post the patchs on oldunreal.com, the wiki, and as many clan websites as possible. If the master server goes down again, the new player would see a reference to that on the bottom of their screen, and with any luck google the error. In which case they should be able to find a link on the subject that points them to the patch. To get online in the 1st place the new player would have had to patch to something (if using the classic version), so they might just search for the latest patch anyway (doesn't apply to gold I know).
So anyway, agreed the best thing we can do is spread the word and post the patch (once completed) in as many unreal 1 related places as possible.

just to note it again: the patch can be already applied to ugold and anthology, its just the player loses RTNP then.
227e does fine so far, no critical errors have been reported yet. So 227f may come soon, although I want to give it some more time to be sure nothing has been missed because of the short testing time.
Of course I'm biased, but indeed I think 227e does already better than any previous patches.

On that note, from looking at the All Servers tab, 227 appears to be querying every master server on the list (I don't know if one by one or all at once, I assume the latter), waiting for ALL of them to finish, and then querying each IP to get the server details. This is the cause of the delay, especially when you add an invalid master server; it waits for ALL of them to finish before it'll display servers on any tab other than 'All servers'.
Couldn't that be changed? Is there any reason why you can't query the (incomplete) list of IPs as each master server finishes? That should eliminate the delay people are complaining about, and I was able to do it manually on the all servers tab.

How about contacting as many "current" servers as possible, and asking them "edit" or to use that deal that displays messages when entering the server, and at the beginning and end of every map and match, to explain everything in the event / when we eventually lose them for good. Etc etc.
And ofcourse explaing to all thier friends, and on web sites, forums and every way possible.
and thing salong those lines I'm not currently thinking of, I'm watching the SD Chargers Lol..

Most not all but most Anyone who has been playing Unreal for Many years, or who used to years ago, knows me. I played DM but alot of INF_SO and Inf_DM, ran a server, admined 3 at the same time, BCRM, Coded a bit, mapping all that. frequented servers and clans like CO30 and so on.
But I have always had a slow computer, don't ahve alot of money have alot of childtren =7. :=D, still have a old OLD P3@550. HaHa!
