Rented A Server

From ultimate game servers host.

They didn't have the game so I sent them an ISO and the 227d patch.
After they installed it server doesn't broadcast.
The tech said it was up and had people in it.Utter BS as I couldn't join with IP,neither could four other people.
Getting abit pissed with these folks now but before I throw in the towel
I figured I'd have someone else have a look.
Here is the Unreal.ini the host is using.
It doesn't look right to me.See anything wrong?

The one thng I did notice right off is that there is no place for server name,password,etc.
They rent ut99 servers so I'm guessing they know what ports to set but you never know.

Oh yeah ... the [IpServer.UdpServerUplink] stuff shows up in Unreal.ini when it's run as a server, so if it's not there I don't think it was run as a server to begin with. I'd have a chat with those folks.

I wonder if I could add the missing lines back into the existing .ini and make it work.
If so,what order should I put everything in?
Could maybe someone do a printout of what the .ini should look like so I could copy and paste it into my config file via my cpanel?

Whatever you do, upload all your logs/INIs/other huge things to http://www.pastebin.com/ . And yea, that's strange. At least the
FirstRun=227 line is there, so it was run and has 227 installed. If you can, see their log. There you'll see what happens.

The thing you also could do is setup your own server at home with all the setting and tweaks you want and make sure the server works like a charm and than upload that ini including other files to your rented server.


That is, i asume you have full FTP access which is what you should have for a rented server.






PS, in the case they are unable to help you out running a good server, you can always turn to TNN at http://www.thenerdnetwork.com


Prices are good, and they have alot of diehard  8-) experience in running Unreal servers for years and years. Reliabillity and solid service comes on top of that. (.....Just in case your unsatisfied with your current host)

I had a 227 server set at home,runs like a champ.
Would using that .ini be a conflict?
TNN is good but this host is only $12.50 a month for 10 slot with unlimited space and bandwidth.

The cool part from Unreal is that its actually pretty straight forward stuff, and you can tweak everything endlessly and that includes the modular build.

As long as you have all the files, like textures, sounds, mods etc. uploaded to the rented server it should be just fine. And specifically you provided the files to begin with, so no conflict should arise there.

Yeap, INIs never cause conflicts. Even if you don't have some files, Unreal will usually simply ignore the line. Unless you add it to EditPackages or something. Just be sure you don't have corrupt files (i.e. upload errors).

Got it all running but host just can't support the game.It's so old they don't have a clue.
I opted for the UT99 server for 1 month then we'll see what happens.Thanks for all the help.

Thats somewhat nonsense what they tell you there. If they can setup UT they should be able to install Unreal as well. its almost the same. Indeed 227 is technically even newer than UT...

There are diferences alright, but as for directly running a server excluding all mods and such, both games are virtually the same. If they can run UT just fine, they should be able to run Unreal as well. And theres no excuse for that.

They have trouble setting up a simple command line.
I got what I paid for I guess.
For $12.50 I'll use it for the month then it's gone.
TNN would be ok but $40 a month is too steep.
Yes,I've used them before,Dan's cool,just too high IMO.

Because of my router I could never run a home based server,even in DMZ but with 227 it works flawlessly.
