227 Files ( No EXE )

Post by HeadShot »

Hey i was wondering if the 227 releases could start having downloadable zip files with the all the files, instead of the exe. It will make it much easier to update paid for hosted servers where you only have the FTP. If this isn't possible, could I get a list of all the modified files so I can just take those only and put them in the server ?

Thanks.

i need the installer to not hurt any copyrights. Since Unreal is still not free I am not allowed to simply offer it as zip. Remember, for this project I have official permission from EPIC.
Basically you need all .exe, .dll, .u and .int files. The Unreal.ini (default.ini) was updated as well so you may need to adjust it on your server too...

Edit: forgot uwindowfonts.utx and footsteps.uax

Yea, and hopefully Smirf can make a Linux-friendly installer later.

Sometimes Vista decides to be a bitch and restrain access to files.
In these cases, it would be much easier to have all files in a zip than giving the .exe individual access to all protected files.

On a related note, in the installer program, where you choose install directory, could we get a browse button rather than an useless Initialize ?

I'm using the standard Installer. Of course I can modify it some day, but currently the patch itself is having priority...

I figured the solution.

1. Install unreal
2. Delete everything other than unreal.exe in system folder ( yes everything, maps, textures, etc. the stuff in the folders not the folders)
3. Install 227 to that directory
4. You have nothing but the files you need.

Even better is to simply create the Unreal folderstructure from scratch and add Unreal.exe to it, than run the installer. That makes sure you end up 100% with only 227 files :)

For the final installer that should be on top of the list.
