There is a mod for UT called SiegeXXL, but as far as I've played, the mechanics fail. Players tend to complain too much about defensive tactics, which is more or less the same problem with Tremulous. It's much harder to make a RTS - FPS hybrid gametype work than a Tactical Squad FPS for instance.

To A_the_first_letter: U2 is not dead. There is still a community even though it's small and if my project goes nicely it will expand. Look here for my project: http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=194075
U2XMP master server was once dead - but now it's revived and players can now enjoy a new master server.

To Jazz Ad: U1 is smartly made but doesn't have enough abilities, like particles, meshes, terrain editor, smart lighting system, dialogues, mantling and many other things that would help. 227 patch adds something more though.
The story is interesting but I find it strange that it's like a series of missions, it could be a long one like in U1. The character is kinda slow in the missions (in deathmatch it's better, almost UT style), but that makes it a challenge. You are just too fast in U1, Titans too easy because of that :D
Dialogues are good, they add a new perspective of the game. The game graphics is nice, the only thing I don't like is the performance.
The game has XMP and also Deathmatch and Capture the flag that was left unfinished but working, that's why my project is for.

To oXid: Yeap, it's somewhat short. That's why there is XMP, DM and CTF.

Fenix Steiner, I tried using alpha UTXMP when I had UT04 installed. It was fun even though the bots were quite unintelligent as it was the alpha.

Jâçkrâßßit, you're right about the engine. It has many undiscovered and very interesting things and the landscape is just marvelous (didn't try to use the terrain editor yet though). But it is not horrible.

Hyper.nl, it would be if it had bots :( I don't have a good enough connection to play online :\

So like I've said in the top of the reply, DM and CTF would be a good continuation for U2 like it was for U1 (no CTF there though...). If you have time, look at my project :)

No Emerald I'm not talking about UTXMP, I'm talking about the models from Unreal 2 in "normal" UT2004 games, check SkinCity. Also there is a mod called "Unreal Tournament 2: TC" or something, check the news archive at BeyondUnreal.com, a old news post has a link to it, that or check Filefront.com. It has the U2 Skaarj models, the original UT99 flak cannon, enforcers ,etc, it also has John Dalton as a player character, directly off of Unreal 2.

Oh hey, thanks for spelling my name fully.

Oh, have seen those too. And saw the UT2TC page, but I think it's something like a huge pile of different types of weapons. Like Impact Hammer, looks like shieldgun - what the..? And so on, but good thing there's something from U2. And I have found out that the Skaarj Razik was planned to be made as a pickup in U2 but that somehow didn't get into the game. You can hear their sounds in U2Weapons sound package SkaarjGlove group.

And hey, I know you like being named fully, Fenix Steiner :)

Yeah wtf I know that, SkaarjGlove, I wonder if they planned the weapon so that you could have akimbo, two gloves in each hand. Wow that would look interesting on Dalton's armour, haha.

There's also these messed up mesh's called "ShianWorker" or something, also a few "strider" equipment that looks organic but takes on some of the names of the U2 Marine equipment.

Funny how Unreal 2 has primitive "Botmatch" support, I wonder what Legend was really planning to do with Unreal 2, I mean they released XMP right? Was that because everyone wanted Unreal 2 multiplay? Or was it because they didn't get the multiplay functions developed in time for the ship?

If there's one mod I like, it's Ballistic Weapons v2.0, that and Junk Wars both for UT2004. And hey how did you KNOW I like it when people spell my name correctly? Must be common courtesy...

Even in Unreal 2 alpha e3 test demo from 2001 there are a lot more classes than at final version of Unreal 2 or something.

It was all Atari's fault that started mess up with Legend's ideas and forcing them to make game shorter and not use of all things and make things more linnear, they later even planned to make a missionpack which was planned to bring back the original feel back and to continue the story and make a real Unreal 2.
They forced them to remove multiplayer at first as well to not cause competion between Ut2003, I posted an reamke of interesting preview artic[ch367]le posted by one computer magazine at old Unrealsp forums once as well.

Still Unreal 2 music kicks ass (being the best of series IMO) and it is shame that underwater world with Shians was never shown in a game, although there are textures left and stuff ferom them still, even in u2xmp packages.

http://www.hellscrag.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3409

Edit: DANG IT! Most of pics I posted there don't exist anymore and they were unique ones, these stuff you can not find even in that e3 alpha!

Btw posting class list for weapons in the alpha (for the pickups there is weaponinv in front I think):
weaponAssaultRifle, weaponEnergyRifle, weaponFlameThrower, weaponGrenadeLauncher, weaponLaserRifle, weaponLeechGun, weaponMindClaw, weaponPistol, weaponRocketLauncher, weaponShotgun, weaponSingularityCannon, weaponSkaarjGlove, weaponSniperRifle, weaponStunBaton, weaponTakkra.

the music was good. The terrain was good. The storyline, characters, and even enemies were some of the worst I have ever experienced (personally).

Atari is BS, they should stick to 8-bit games, wth.

I thought you said the "StunBaton" crashed the e3 demo? Lmfao...

It is a totally different Atari you know, it is not the same company, it came from Infogrames, but is much mopre crappier than infogrames were.

The StunBaton froze my computer actually, but it could have been because of my computer just.
It was a melee weapon, notice there was not meant to be dispersionpistol at start.
Imagine having stunbaton like these guards at Half-Life 2 had at Unreal2 as weapon or something.

The U2 Dispersion pistol looks like this sidearm on this custom playermesh for UT99, "ecoterrorist" or something, check SkinCity for it.

Yeah, U2 never had any melee weapons, you cant even use the shock lance as one, so I can get the point of using a stun baton like the CP's in Half life 2.

But there are semi-melees, don't forget the Flame Thrower and Grenade Launcher.

How the hell is the Grenade Launcher considered a melee?

I've always thought melee combat in Unreal 2 should have been like in Halo, in terms of bashing with the butt of your gun, all the U2 mercs and marines perform that move.

Well, at least you can't long-range from it and with using grenades you can hit a target which is in the melee distance from you.

And I remember Red Faction's 1 first weapon, don't remember how it is called but it's an electrical baton thing that you can do a double hit (no cost) and elecrification (with power cost) with. That was cool lol!
EDIT: Right, Control Baton :D

Oh wow the Riot Prod, Ultor sucks ass. There is another mêlée weapon called the Riot Shield which protects you from bullet fire from the front until it eventually shatters, fun to bash people around with it.

Yea, a tech is dead only after two hits... That's sooooo not powerful lol

But that's quite far off-topic lol

Hmm, not to mention U1, U2 and UT04 ::)

Our project now has 2 members :) We still need coders though.
