Publish Unreal cache naming scheme.

Hey would you mind telling us how Unreal's cache-naming scheme works?

Something like
GUID+".uxx"

or letters of GUID backwards + ".uxx"...

One of those I think...

Whenever you save a package file to disk, the file is internally stamped with a GUID ("Globally Unique Identifier"), which is a 128-bit number which is guaranteed to be unique. In single-player play, this GUID is never used and is irrelevent. However, when you connect to an Internet-based server, the server sends a list of packages that are required for gameplay there (for example, the level it uses, any texture packages it uses, any sound packages, etc). These packages are identified by name and GUID. If you don't have one of the packages required by the server, the package file is automatically downloaded to your \Unreal\Cache directory, and given a filename based on its GUID.
I guess my question then is, how is the GUID generated?

randomly when you save/build each package. You can use a package editor to manually set one if you want

That will be Vandora :D
I don't have Unreal any more so I actually don't quite care when it it released, but good luck, it should be a really good patch when it will be full!

Well, it will be a week tomorrow since he stated he was sick. So we would only have to wait one more week at the max.

you've already waited however many years. I'm sure you guys can wait a few more weeks (yes, weeks, I'm being realistic here) for the beta release.

so essentially its not done yet, without a readme stuff can get messy for the users.

i'm with Bane on this one though, if smirftsch doesn't feel ready, i don't mind another delay. hell i can wait another year :)

I was sick for almost 3 weeks now, this prevented me from going on. The install is just as previous official releases, and includes OMP extensions. So install is just as easy.
Finished today my work on the .int files (internatilization needs still to be done, so need italian and french users maybe soon, but this can be done AFTER the beta release).
Think I will be able to do the most of the things this weekend.
After this a clean-up will follow.

I've never been sick 3 weeks, ugh.. must be terrible..

I don't know how many french users play unreal, but i do know there's plenty of italian people.
Hopefully you wont get sick any time soon :O
