Well thats how i had always used it...i never knew anyone else that used that though...and i take it that Dante never heard of that either...so he assumed me racist

mother f**ker hes hacked my server again...and this time he managed to change the name of my server to Pcubes server for some reason, change how many players could join...and spam the log so much that i had a 6 GB log!!! RAWR!!! It was a different IP he joined...must have 2 computers or somethin'...banned him by the new ip just now...and hes still trying to join as i speak...he can't get in though.

Here's his new IP which u should ban from ur server: 75.34.93.48

EDIT: Just realized he also erased my entire ini settings for my game type...i gotta reset everything all over again...this has gotten so f**king out of hand...im gonna trace this b**ch's IP, find out where he lives, go to his house, AND F**KING KICK HIS ASS!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if you are running widows but if you are this workaround might help
create safety.bat that runs in a separate window while ucc runs:

\Unreal 224\backup_ini.files\
\Unreal 224\system\

\Unreal 224\safety.bat
:hello
replace backup\backup_ini.files\* system
goto hello

\Unreal 224\ucc DmAriza.unr

i don't know how this will affect performance or if it will stop the files from being changed long enough to prevent their implementation.
EDIT: 'Also I am unaware of how powerful of an infiltration device the software thats being used to make the changes in your ini's and such is.'

I still believe that any Unreal server should run fine without any bans. I've been running coop servers for a long time and learned that banning hardly works. If your server has any weaknesses that get exploited, then the hacker will continue to attack it from other IP's. Also, other bad players will start exploiting the weakness as soon as they 'smell blood' (Yes, shark-like behaviour). The only way to get rid of the attacks is to remove the weakness in the software or the behaviour of the admin.

Take some time to investigate what possibly happened. If it was admin error, try to learn from it and take more caution. If it was a software error that was being exploited, contact the programmer and ask for support or a new version. (Or remove the software if you can't get support)

Hm, this looks like someone might got your server password. Be sure to shut down server immediately, restore the backup of your latest good Unreal config and choose a new password. And make sure you have a separate install and separate password for your Unreal server and your client.

Yawn, yes I find this very hard to believe that Dante did this.  Doing some of this requires an admin password, backing up ini's has always been a no-brainer.  I'm beginning to think your just making some of this stuff up or just blaming your problems on Dante, which is okay because everything is Dante's fault.

I guess you haven't read my reply. Basicly, if it can be hacked (And people know how to do it) it will be hacked. No matter if you ban Dante or not.

Discussing server security is one thing but personal attacks are something completely different. Reguardless of what this person may or may have not done to you this is a public forum and such is not the place for these posts. I will delete any more posts of this nature. If you feel the need to publicly bash someone I suggest you find another place to express that.

Not always true...i know hackers that can hack and dont. What rly amazes me is that Unreal has the least amount of players online...and yet the most a**holes i've ever seen in an online community...no offense to Unreal at all...i luv it to death and i always will...its just that its true

Hm, you did not really get it I guess. I was not saying that everyone who has the knowledge to 'hack' will attack a vulnerable Unreal server. I meant to say that if the knowledge how to 'hack' is there, that it will be abused sooner or later. So, you'll need to address the weaknesses as good as you are able to.
Most players have no knowledge to exploit anything. A smaller part does have the knowledge without using it for bad purposes, but there will always be some who do use it to exploit.

Right a personal attack. Which has absolutely nothing to do with Old Unreal. So looking at this realistically. You post your personal opinions about someone else here. On a another note you have not provided one shred of proof! Now lets just say we let all this go. Now everyone else thinks they can post there personal issues reguarding attacks or even maybe against people they don't like. Well alot of people out there know how to do alot of nasty stuff. Be it attacking an unreal server or maybe even a web page. So lets say Dante reads these posts and assumes Old Unreal supports your "personal" attacks. Then he gets pissed off and decides to lash out at Old Unreal because he assumes we are taking your side. Old Unreal is a community service. The truth of the matter is though, you have run questionable mods on your servers. This attack against you has nothing to do with us here at Old Unreal. Your excuse is , Oh I'm warning people. There is no need, we all here at Old Unreal know what the security issues are and how to deal with them, and sure things pop up from time to time but the security folks are well aware of whats going on. I honestly think your original post was an attempt to lash out at Dante. Which is a typical knee jerk reaction. Most people who visit here realize that the posts of people are their opinions and not that of Old Unreal. There is however alot of people who have the same knee jerk reactions. These kind of posts which you made do nothing but further infuriate those that try to hack and attack servers. Whether you realize it or not your post puts Old Unreal at risk to the same kind of attacks. Your opinions are your own and not that of the staff here. I say this again with finality. These kind of posts are not needed or wanted. I am also locking this thread as no more usefulness has become of it. If any of the other admins here think otherwise by all means unlock it. As I see it now this is going no where. I honestly hate being the "bad guy" but hey I'd rather people take it out on me then Smirftsch or Old Unreal.
