Hi all,

I've done some HD textures in the past for the URP and for https://www.moddb.com/mods/high-resolution-unreal-skins

For the last 6 months I've been working (in secret  :D) on finishing the Unreal Retexturing Project.  I now have a build that I am ready to share!

https://sites.google.com/view/unrealhdtextures/home

All of the UTX packages that were incomplete now have high res textures.

Just wanted to say I am enjoying this texture pack. Ahaigh has been working hard on this! I know how long it can take to create good quality textures for Unreal, so I really hope this pack does not go unnoticed!

Thank you for all the hard work you've put into this project. I'm glad to see that DieHard's torch is picked up and carried on. That's how a legacy is begun.

Hey razor74,

The weapons and skins are handled separately by the unreal engine, but you are in luck.  Lightning Hunter has put out a mutator that updates those to high res.  You can download it here:

For unreal 1 you must use the 227 patch. When start a new game there is a mutator button. It is for single player.

You'll need to enable a different UI.

Advanced options - drivers - console: choose the "umenu browser console" and when you start a new game, you should see the mod menu.

Why portal/teleport isn't working properly in my custom map?

Hi Luke,

Please don't make off-topic posts. This thread is about High-res textures. It's better to keep your posts in the relevant topics, especially if you have already created a topic/thread for it.

Thanks for your time.

Thank you AHaigh01 for your devotion to this project.

I noticed that Unreal227-HD-Texture-Pack-Standard-Edition-2.0.3 contains 30 UTX files.
Unreal227-HD-Texture-Pack-3.0.0 has only 28 UTX files.
Unreal-DX11-4K-HD-Texture-Pack-v2.0.4 has 28 texture folders

Missing items are Castle1 and Crypt2.

Crypt2 was not used in the original install of UnrealGold, it was a UT99 file.
(Probably why you omitted it).

The original install of UnrealGold Castle1 contains many textures (4428 KB).
Castle1 in UT99 has very few textures (174 KB).

Was the removal of castle1 intentional?

Hi Mahem,

I originally included Crypt2 in the older versions because it is used in some custom maps so I had done an HD version. I figured I would throw it in. But now that UT99 has a completed version of its own, Crypt2 is just included in that one where it should be. So it's still available and actually has been completely redone.

Castle1 is a strange one since Unreal and UT have completely different versions and my gut feeling is that it should just remain low res due to its beta-esque quality. And it was never used in the game. That's why I pulled it out.

Here's release info on the latest HD pack - v3 The Unreal and Unreal Tournament releases are distinctly different, other that just network compatibility.

"Unreal Tournament HD textures 3.0 are here. This release is focused on completing all of the UT99 specific texture packages that were incomplete. UT99 is now HD from top to bottom!

Ver. 3 represents a fork in the road between the Unreal and UT99 offerings. My Ver. 1 and 2 releases were focused on completing the Unreal textures. The new UT99 pack now contains 82 .utx packages, while the Unreal version has 28. All of the textures in UT99 are now HD, including bonus pack 1-4 textures. The UT 2nd CD S3TC textures are not needed when using this pack.

The Unreal ver. 3 is focused on increased quality, detail and faithfulness to the originals. The UT99 version includes all of these upgrades as well."

Let's pretend I'm an idiot. Okay, I'm an idiot, so no pretending is needed.

Please post simple, step by step instructions to get High Res Textures onto my Unreal Gold.

1. What are all of the files I need to download, including their install instructions. Please include any mutators, etc.

2. Screenshots of setting them up while running Unreal Gold. I use 227i.

It would be nice to have all the information, download links and instructions in one location. Just so I can get my original Unreal Gold looking the way it deserves.

And remember, I'm an idiot. Keep it simple please. Thanks!

:)

I would suggest you start by making a backup copy of the UnrealGold/textures folder.
Call it textures_old or something.

Get the latest textures (Version 3.0) from ahaigh01:
https://sites.google.com/view/unrealhdt ... d-textures
Place all of the utx files into your Textures folder overwriting the originals.
No mutator needed.

You will want Lightning Hunter High Def skins (v2.1) go here:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/high-resolut ... nrealhd-v2
Follow the enclosed instructions to run his mutator.

If your video card is Direct X 11 capable, get darknovismc renderer (v1.6):
https://www.moddb.com/mods/unreal-direc ... cbu-and-dx
Very carefully follow the enclosed instructions it is a bit tricky.
It is amazing stuff.

If you are successful with the dx11 go back to ahaigh01 site and get Unreal HD4K Extreme Resolution v2.04 in dx11 format.
Again follow the enclosed instructions.

P.S. Edit - DX11 requires height maps, darknovismc provides those here:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/normal-and-h ... 1-renderer

Thanks for that very good tutorial Mahem,

I would just point out that the -Unreal HD4K Extreme Resolution v2.04 in dx11 format- is a generation behind and lacks all of the newest improvements (thousands of them), even though it is 4K. I will have a 4K version of v3 out soon however...

Thank you for those texture, they're awesome and very much appreciated :)

I noticed a small continuation error on the earth, seen from CTF-Face:
https://imgur.com/pEcBGcj
It's a line starting from slightly west of the great american lakes that goes along the coas of Florida and south into middle america. You can hardy see it with the naked eye, but with the sniper rifle zoom it's visible.

I just tried out the HD Textures and Skins. I have an HP laptop (Ryzen 3 CPU and Vega 3 Graphics) hooked up to a 32" 1080p TV. I've found using D3DX9 works the best with the Vega 3. There's VSync problems with GLOpen.

Anyway, the installation was very easy. They look great.

Glad to hear your up and running new textures.

If you want to experiment.
Sync problems might be cured by changing a setting in the Unreal.ini.
Under [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice] section
change SwapInterval=-1 to SwapInterval=1

You might also want to set FrameRateLimit=
to your refresh rate

That fixed my screen tearing problems.

Changing SwapInterval=-1 to SwapInterval=1 lessened the shearing, but didn't fully solve the issue. Pre first run the Unreal.ini is already set as FrameRateLimit=60.

With some of the AMD Radeon graphics it's just better to use D3DX9 instead of OpenGL with Unreal or Unreal Gold. That's just my experience using at least 7 different PCs over a 20 year period. nVidia use OpenGL, Radeon use D3DX.

Quick Note: I have the original CD, which I made into an ISO using WinCDEmu and put onto a 1TB portable drive. I mount the image from the portable drive and install Unreal Gold that way. The game installs in less than a minute, which is far quicker than using the CD.

I've found that opening up the Radeon Console, going to Settings/Graphics, and setting the Wait for Vertical Refresh to Always on. That works to solve any OpenGL issues, most times.

Still, it just way too easy just to drop the textures (etc) into their folders, use D3DX9 during a first run, start Unreal Gold 227 up and set up the Skins mutator. Nothing else is needed. You're ready to play Unreal HD.
