Particle Excellerator of sorts?

Post by Pub »

Hey all im working on a map and i hit a snag, i want to have a floating shelf sort of to hold weapons and ammunition. It's going to be a sci-fi map and i felt id use beams coming from the bottom to simulate little thrusters allowing it to hover. I figured id try to just use coronoa's set to be translucent, but it just doesnt turn out that well. Ive seen pics of people using particle excellerators ( i think ) and it looks amazing and thatd be wicked to have instead of just texturing this effect.
If anyone wants to take some time to explain how to use this effect that would be very much appreciated :). I understand its probably not an easy thing to do and might take alot of explanation.

Also if anyone has a .t3d of a space ship or anything like that id love to get a hold of it, was going to add a crashed ship or something.

So you want a little thruster ? Add an emitter in your map : XParticleEmitter=>XEmitter=>XSpriteEmitter=>Emitter.

Then, in it's properties, in EmVisuals=>ParticleTextures, add your flare texture. Use StartingScale to scale it's size. To add movement, use EmSpeed=>BoxVelocity (here you add mins and maxs of speed on the three axis X,Y and Z). If you want to change the color, use ParticleColor, under EmVisuals, and if you want to make it spawn from a zone instead of spawning every particle from the very center of the emitter, EmPosition=>BoxLocation will let you specify a cubic zone of spawn.

Toy a little with these properties and look at the other tabs and parameters. It's pretty self-explanatory if you have a clue how it works, but someone should definitely make a tutorial about it ;)
You must construct additional pylons.

It only requires basic physics knowledge, I figured it out on my own and even made a weapon that utilizes them. :-?
