Quickest way to make underground tunnels?

Post by KillerSkaarj »

Seriously, I need something that will help me make Underground tunnels quickly. Currently, I'm vertex editing a single brush that Hybrid made and linking them together, but that takes far too long.

So, I reiterate, is there a faster way to do this?

I don't think I understood your question.
You mean underground tunnels like long cave corridor stuff?

You should try to mess with the TarquinExtruderBuilderBrush. It may be not "random" enough, but you would have something usable on your corridor and then vertex-edit some sides for better effect.

Here's the builder :

And here's the manual :

You must construct additional pylons.

I use it for many things, from beams to entire borders of complex rooms. This is a creation of GOD !

Yes, that's what I meant, Dark. And thanks HellKeeper! I'll try it out right now. If it works, I will praise you!

Oh, now you tell me...

EDIT: Is it possible to learn how it works in one day? Oh, and geez, this thing works even better than I imagined. Actually, it works exactly as I envisioned a Cave Builder to. Previously, it would take me a minute to form one section of the cave, now it takes me only 3 seconds. It will multiply my map development twenty-fold!

You and the guy who made this thing ROCK!!

it wouldn't be fun otherway :p
Actually, it will just take a few minutes if you read the documentation and make some tries. it's a fairly complex and powerful tools, with many lovely propreties such as :

I've been using it extensively over time, and now I love it more than my family.

Argh... I went crazy with Extrude and vertex edit and now I can't continue the map because when I try to, I get a million and 3 BSP holes.

Hmmm...

Yeap, that's exactly why in UE2 caves are usually made with 2 TerrainInfos, which are not BSP! But this is UE1, so...

Woohoo, I fixed it! ;D I remembered what one person said in a thread about using Zone Portals to split up complex areas. I did that and the giant BSP holes weren't even showing up at all when I added the room I wanted. I'm pretty sure the area that I zoned off will explode if I try to cram any more polygons into it :D.

You didn't zone them off earlier? Well, don't forget to add a ZoneInfo to each zone and set ZoneSound to Cave - EAX support!

That's exactly what I did, but it didn't work as far as I know. I don't think it's echoing.

Maybe you don't have EAX enabled or something? The CAVE setting should echo like hell :) Also, make sure you really selected it, in UT2004 you have to do EditInline and press the "New" button after selecting the scheme so the settings would be applied.

When I test my map, I force Hangar/Quarry EAX on my soundcard. :o
