Later versions UT have that option, but you wont find it in Unreal or UT.
But there is a way that might do the trick(kinda anyway). The texture itself needs to have a chrome look. And on top of that you could make the surface Mirrored and Translucent. If i am correct Mirrored makes it entirely Mirrored and you wont see the surface anymore at all. If you also check Translucent than the surface will be remain partially(50% ?) visible.

Textures in unreal or UT unfortunately don't support any kind of chrome-ish effects, like diehard already said you can try mirrored/reflective surfaces to give a similar effect, although this is very performance hungry because the amount of rendering is doubled per reflective surface.
Meshes in unreal do support chrome-ish effects though, you probably know that by the mercenary shield or shieldbelt effects. You could use a mesh and in properties->display set bmeshenviromap to true to give them chrome effects.
its possible to use the plane decoration mesh and make it translucent and bmeshenviromap in its display properties, then place it slightly over a normal textured surface, giving the texture a very chrome-ish looking effect.

Yea, in UT you can see the effect on, for example, the trophies. Those are meshes.
