Audio but no Video

Hi, after finding the s3tc textures i couldnt re-install unreal fast enough...

i followed:

i checked the path that things were installed to as one post surgested.

i installed the latest divers from ATI for my x1950 card (AGP).

When i start the game and go into the advanced options and turn on S3TC and return to the game the sound continues but i just get a frozen desktop - no game is visible.

i need to CTRL-ALT-DEL to get the lock screen to pull up task manager to kill it.

please help.

lol, just wrote you a mail that you should turn to the forums here.

As i wrote in the mail, i have no real idea what could cause it. But you may wanna try a lower screensize like 800 x 600 and see if that works, if so, go up step by step. I believe that a similar thing happened to me in the past when i used a too high screensetting.

I have done as you said and installed the latest drivers from ati/amd. i have also tried starting the game at 800x600, however neither has changed the problem - i can hear the game but all i see is the desktop set to the resolution selected in the game. i have to kill the game via task manager to exit.

would it be worth me cross posting in one of the other forums?

And you do have a 224 version Unreal you did patch to 226Final? and not an UnrealGold version that you did patch226Final (which you shouldnt)?


And i asume its the same result, but if you have S3TC enabled, and use normal textures the screen is still black ?

I have the original version (not gold) which i patched straight to UnrealPatch226Final as per;

i kept a backup of the old textures folders. when i reinstate them i can not even enable the opengl driver never mind S3TC (i get the same problem)

If you installed 226Final and the OMP-226-V0.2.exe patch and enable S3TC than both normal and the S3TC textures should work.


it only shows S3TC when present, if not, it uses the plain textures. Though i doubt theres a change, i still was wondering if you have everything enabled, but with normal textures, does it have the same result?

The problem appears to be when i select Opengl as a driver with either textures in place. if i leave S3TC disabled and just select opengl as a driver i get the problem (with either texture in place) = a frozen desktop, unreal sound and no video.

I am kinda ill at the moment, but i am working to see if we can try another option.


227 patch is close to the beta release, so dont count on it now. I could bypass your problem alright, since you can also run the S3TC textures with the D3D8 renderer. So at the end there is a solution, but its not available yet.


I am working on something to make sure a wrong installation is excluded. Ill contact you asap to see if it will help you.

Did you try if the beta patch 227a enables you to work with OpenGL, and if not, will it work with D3D8 ?
