A bit of a problem.

Post by bluedruM »

Hey, i downloaded the s3tc textures from the Unreal Gold Installations page on CW. Now, i have unreal gold, but the version is 226, so i shouldnt be too sure yet.... But lemme get to the problem. I installed the patch, use s3tc to true, ect ect ect..... And they look great. Completely new gamin experience :D. But when i move, i'm sort of going slow-mo..... But i know its not the complete game, because when i look around freely, it goes normal speed-- same w/ the main menu. It's only when i shoot and try to move around. Sorry if this is a repost from some1, i just dont have the time to look :o.

If somebody can tell me it would be a HUGE help.
Thanks, {dMs]

(p.s. Awesome job on this project Die Hard ;))

Actually no idea what it could cause, its a new issue i never encountered before.

Its kinda late for me now, so ill just give a quick reply.

Could you post info about your videocard/CPU, etc.

The only thing that comes to mind right now may that its too much for your videocard. Is it really slow motion, or does it stotter somewhat ?

In that case, try shut down all other prorams in the background to make sure all resource can go to your UnrealGold. You could also hit the TAB button ingame and type: timedemo 1 to see what your averidge framerate is. (timedemo 0 would remove the count)

If its a too small videocard than theres little that can be done now, but i am working on packages that serve lower end users. (The choice is there already on the downloads but packages are still the same, its just i already added the links, so little point downloading again on the low end links).

Other that mentioned above i have no clue than maybe spyware, a virus, etc

Post more info on your system.

Okay, for the Timedemo, this is what i get:

Average: 117.xxxxxx FPS.
RMS: 31.xxxxxx FPS.
Last Second: [changes at random]
Lowest: 1.377678 FPS.
Highest: 227. 439865 FPS.

err, it's kind of late over here, too. I will tomorrow post further info of my pc....

err.... another thing, how do i find my video card? i dont know much about computers.... if you could tell me that'd be great lol.

Thanks, {dMs]

Okay, thanks to the help of xeye, i found my videocard:

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 TE 64M / 6600 TE 128M ;D

I'm running on XP

*EDIT*
I experimented a little, I tried changing drivers. I started off by turning "Use S3TC" to False. It still went slow. Then, [after turning it back to true] I switched to my original driver, Direct3D. It ran its original normal speed, but the textures didnt work, which i wasnt too surprised about. So now i'm at the conclusion that it isnt the textures that thats makin the game screwey, it's the OpenGL. I'm going to bed, i'll try and sort it out tomorrow.

Hope that helps....and hope i get some in return ;)

Thanks,
{dMs]

Sorry i didnt reply again, but i am ill and didnt had the strength to give some further reply.

But cool you could solve it :)

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 TE 64M / 6600 TE 128M

If that info is correct than it looks like you got either a 64 or 128 mb videocard which means by definition you are on the lower end on the scale like me (got 128 myself).

In any case you can always check if its the renderer or the textures that are a too big drain. If you load up the normal textures but have S3TC enable and slow or stuttering framerates are there, its the rendering not the textures.

If the stuttering is not there, and they are there if you add the S3TC textures, than its the textures that are too much for your videocard. In that case the solution would be try shut down as much as tasks on your computer to make sure all resources go as much as possible to your Unreal.

Yea, like i said i tried switching back to my original render, and it worked fine again, and when i switched back and turned s3tc off, it still was way too slow. So i was almost positive it was OpenGl.

Thanks, and hope ya feel better ;)
