I have windows 11, with Directx 12.
Earlier I installed unreal (from Steam) - it prompt me to install directx . Does it want to load a earlier version Directx 9 ?
But this caused other games to crash.
Do I need to run a older version of Windows like W98 or Vista in order to play Unreal ?
Thanks, Peter

Re: Can I play Unreal on a Windows 11 machine?
I know from Windows 7 that it was advisable to run the DirectX installer because some DirectX 9 files were not included with Windows, even tho Windows 7 came with DirectX 11.
I don't know if it also applies to Windows 10 and 11 but on my Windows 11 I ran the installer anyway just to be sure:

Have you tried the v227j patch? It was released some time ago. It makes Unreal playable on newer systems.petercli wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:11 am I have windows 11, with Directx 12.

Whenever I install Unreal (classic) or Unreal Gold I always UNCHECK both the Editor and Direct X boxes. I've done this even before the 227 patch. If your version of Windows and/or Direct X is missing older stuff it is better to download the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... aspx?id=35 After you have installed Unreal with the Editor and Direct X UNCHECKED then you install the patch 227. It will give you any components you are missing, and it also gives you a fantastic upgraded Editor. Before 227 I would install the patch and then UEdFix for the Editor. With Windows 10 some older games need the Legacy component turned on. Unreal doesn't, but it is good to know.
