[Released] RTNP:UE v1.1 HD [UT]

UT now belongs to the "old" Unreal as well. Supporting it for OpenGL and Sound its time to put up a board now.

Synopsis:
A polished conversion of RTNP for UT, with additional subplots that accompany 10 new levels - now complete with high-resolution skins!

Features:
Fully polished Return to Na Pali conversion for Unreal Tournament with all the great features of oldskool. It also contains the cut Unreal Beta maps in a finalized form, together with the RTNP adventure. Here is a full list of features:

-RTNP conversion to UT, without the pesky bugs that have come with previous RTNP conversions.
-The original 17 RTNP levels with bug fixes, texture alignments, game play enhancements, and more. Some maps have been given the treatment they should have received when the Expansion pack first came out!
-10 new levels, completely restored from Beta content of Unreal. This content was originally cut from the official game. It has been modified to fit right in with RTNP, including proper transitions between levels. All of it feels right at home in RTNP!
-Restored beta content has been completely revamped. This includes better lighting, enhanced game play, new stories, added RTNP content, texture alignments, technical revisions, and much more. None of it is in beta form any longer, but finalized.
-Restored music from the beta releases, which are used in the new maps and even some of the old maps.
-Implemented Oldskool features, including permanent carcasses, weapon decals, scoreboard with kill counts, and more.
-A great menu system created by Integration.
-More of a challenge when used with the 'Limbo Difficulty Mutator', which has been included with this conversion. This is recommended for veteran players who found the original RTNP to be too easy!

What is new with V1.1 HD?
Not long ago, a High-Res Skins mod was released that replaced all the low-res skins of Unreal & RTNP with high-resolution, detailed versions. However, the high-res skins mod did not contain replacements for all the great beta and custom skins of RTNP:UE. Version 1.1 HD remedies that.

Here is quick list of added features to V1.1 HD:

-50 new high-resolution skins to replace the old low-res beta skins and custom skins of RTNPUE.
-Never-before seen beta skins have been introduced in this release, as well as a few new custom skins (all in high-res)
-A few new stories have been added.
-Some very minor game play tweaks and bug fixes, including quieter footstep sounds.

Important: Make sure to read 'RTNPUEv11_HD.txt' found within the ZIP file very carefully for installation and playing instructions!

Can you check the book on the boat to Galathriel village? I can't read it (with the translator).
Found this bug in a house - last house @the end of an alley with a Skaarj trooper - of Galathriel (second part):
Image

Is there a similar project (bugfix compatibility for UT) about Unreal 1 maps?

I never saw that happen then again I didn't have birghtness all that high for atmosphere.

This is basically an update for RTNP UE with the HD skins. So no there isn't similar project for the Unreal maps unless you count the DK Unreal maps and similar for coop only. (and sp if you're into more crazy stuff)

There was meant to be a low-res skin release too but LH decided against it even though I could help with the issues and net-compat. Not sure why. Though I just got an idea how to solve it even better but now that it's released I guess it's too late. (because it would involve a trick of updating all the map files too and then just link it to the conformed utx file which would have different name though than the hd one - I suggested to LH previously just having a "patch" release for low-end users having the HDSkins conformed but then I realized the maps could be quickly updated by modyfying the nametable and not the maps themselves or any replacetexture tool used so that an universal skin package could be made instead of the rtnphdskins one)

I'm sorry if I wasn't supposed to say that though.

But I have to say that many skins in hd look just amazing, especially the new gasbags and all that stuff. I like that the skaarj hunters were updated too as I never expected to see that skin in higher res. (the alpha/beta skaarj that survived up to half of 1997)

EDIT: Btw the book on the boat was never readable in the first place.

Maybe it's because I'm using the XOpenGL renderer (http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1453909937 - I don't know the status of S3TC support in it). Gamma is high only in screenshots.

Similar problems (black textures):

Image

Other little bugs/issues:
Stupid nalihouse door opening and closing (due to collision) if you're too near the mesh (from the interior):
Image

Floating mesh in Prometheus:
Image

If you plan some future versions I can re-play the entire game (N times) looking for every inconsistency :p
A release with original Unreal maps (with perfect style uniformity) would be great.

Switched to UTGLR (2010) and the black texture problems remains (rocket launcher skin problem is XOpenGL renderer related):

Is it normal that those coronas are so low-quality? (and it's not the jpeg compression, in-game they look exactly that way)

I tested it primarly on the EXU supplied OpenGL renderer to tell you the truth, hence there was an extra fix for passage of jrath regarding that...

Why is it that some people show up years after the initial release of a project, then start posting about changes they want?   :-?   Anyway, I'm sorry to say lowenz - but I have no intention of fixing those black textures anytime soon.  99% of the players out there will not notice them at all (none of the beta testers did).  The only somewhat glaring issue is with the UMS lift, which I actually did try fixing back in 2011 - but it proved to be too annoying to work with (rebuilding that map is an absolute nightmare).  Not only that, but most people won't notice it enough to warrant hours of work.  Also, why is your gamma up so high?  I think part of the reason you are noticing black textures is because of the ridiculous contrast you have set.  In my game, those black textures are barely noticeable (you have to be actually looking for them).  Your screenshots are some of the ugliest I have ever seen.  What is up with your Rocket Launcher skin?   :o
Just making sure but no changes were made since the final file you sent me for inspection, right?
Yup, no changes!

There was meant to be a low-res skin release too but LH decided against it even though I could help with the issues and net-compat. Not sure why. Though I just got an idea how to solve it even better but now that it's released I guess it's too late. Well, I actually do still plan to do a low-res version, but at a later time.  I just wanted to get the high-res version out, because it's been too long.  I didn't know your plan involved also modifying the HD release (I just thought we had to modify the low-res release only).  I might have waited otherwise.  But anyway, I think a better idea might be to just call the low-res release the coop version.  It probably isn't wise to have an HD version for online play anyway!  It could cause long download times for anyone who joins the server, and maybe even server lag.  I will probably call it 'RTNPUE v1.1 Coop/Low-res'

Leo, is it possible to rename all the packages for the low-res/coop version?  I think that might be a good idea, so someone can have both the low-res and HD verison installed at the same time, while fully maintaining coop support and fixing the package conflicts (like Upak).  We can maybe slowly work on this over time, and include Zynthetic's mutator with the release (if you are up for it).

It's the new shining (.....:D) XOpenGL renderer by our admin :D See the thread about it: http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1453909937
But with UTGLR it's the same (the black).

XOpenGL renderer has a totally different gamma handling.

Ah, just a simple request: can you release a version stripped of the U97 beta maps? ("RTNP classic maps only")

Whatever driver you are using, it looks terrible (probably the settings).  Here is a comparison of what your game looks like vs. mine.

Sorry, but that is not a "simple" request.  Just play the original RTNP in U227.  :P
If I release too many different versions, people will lose interest.  I have no desire to release anything other than the HD version, and the low-res/coop version.  Have you even tried playing the beta maps yet?  They are not "beta" anymore.  So far everyone has enjoyed at least a few of them.  Even if you don't like the dungeon maps (Nexus, Soledad, and Morose), you might enjoy the other maps (Cryox, Velora Cellars, etc.)

Yes, renaming them might be a good idea then. That way the network conflicts are completely avoided and no conforming of the texture package needs to be done.

I missed that message earlier, sorry.  That error message is definitely an audio driver issue.  What driver are you using?  I cannot reproduce your error no matter how many times I save and load.  None of my beta testers have had issues either.  I would recommend switching to the default Galaxy audio driver for UT99.  All other drivers seem to have issues (and will sometimes play the unreal music incorrectly).  If you search parts of your error message on google, you will find that other people have received that same error with official UT99 packages, so it is NOT related to RTNP:UE.
