It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!

Some years ago there was already a topic dedicated to our project on this forum. Though the topic wasnt created by us directly and I think the current forum section fits it better. Whats more important we have some news for you, good and not.
Description of the company
Another Reality is a massive single player campaign. This 30 maps release continues the original story of the official game Unreal and its addon Na Pali. Its thought to be a single player but we dont give up the idea of creating a co-op campaign. The principal characteristic of the mod is a strict adherence to the traditions of the original game and an attempt to keep its unique atmosphere.
We are planning to use the whole content from Unreal and Return to Na Pali (weapons, bonuses, hostile and friendly creatures) and the levels layouts (industrial locations, futuristic bases, spaceships, primitive aboriginal settlements and their large towns, castles, fortresses and ancient temples as well as different natural landscapes: plains, mountains and dungeons).
Moreover there will be some new stuff in the mod. For example, the styling of some levels of Another Reality is based on the levels which were a part of pre-release version of Unreal but didnt have analogues in the final version of the game. The gameplay of Another Reality also has some novelties: before all its a possibility to play the game with mutators. The current version of the mod allows to launch the game with 3 mutators: the first one makes necessary to reload some weapons (this mutator was created by Alien3674 and FACH specially for our mod), the second one brings back the weapons sounds, which were used in earlier version of Unreal (the mutator was written by SKW for series of patches version 227) and finally the third mutator significantly improves most of the enemies AI (Masterkent is the author of this mutator).
The current achievements.
Currently the mod is in the process of development and its almost half done. Except the draft version there is also a public demo-version which was uploaded in December 2011. Technically it contains only 9 levels, but 2 of them are partially presented. Though there arent any major bugs, the levels still need to be improved. Down below you can see the screenshots from the demo-version.

We are planning to release one more demo-version containing 10 levels. 9 of them are the levels from 2011 demo-version that were finally impoved. They were joined together as 2 separate episodes. There will be also an additional location, a more extensive one in comparison with other levels. The release date of this demo-version is still unclear ;-)
If some of you still consider the amount of published materials unsufficient, we really hope that our gallery with screenshots of unpresented levels will be encouraging. (Well, in 2011 we presented only 9 maps and after that we promised to show 10 maps which is a little bit more o_0).
For those who are really curious we introduce a short version of the mod story.
The main character of Another Reality is a military technician, UMS specialist in weaponry\armory, working on the maintenance of the Space Marine troops and being a part of Operation Talon Hunter. He miraculously manages to get away from the collapsing UMS cruiser Bodega Bay, shot down by its own missile. He is wise enough to dress himself in the Marine space suit, and to take some necessary things with him, but the shuttle he uses to escape unfortunately falls into one of the gravitational vortexes of the ill-known planetary field. Now he barely makes it in one piece after the crash-landing, and a journey into unknown lies ahead a risky journey in the dangerous, alien, yet fascinating world of Na Pali.
Just like in the original Unreal, Another Reality protagonist has no pre-defined identity, all that is known about him has been said above. And the heros name, gender, personality is fully given to your personal roleplay and imagination. (We will refer to the protagonist as he, although keep in mind that theres no contradiction to the story to imagine a female character).
Just another thing to be said here in addiction is that our miltech definitely has to have the spirit to keep fighting and not to give in to curcumstances. Although things turned not as lucky as he wanted to, he finds the strength to go on, and now he must find anything any transport, or may be other human beings to help him he begins to search for any path, that leads to salvation. In order to succeed he must follow some signs and clues, that can help him on his tangled way.
The only source of ingame information is, classically, the Universal Translator, and of course, the surroundings of Na Pali itself.
Now, let us give you some insight on the coming events of AR, without going into details.
The journey starts in the abandoned and uncomfortable terrain with a lonely Nali village, from where the player gets to one of the many industrial mining regions, controlled by the Skaarj. This region features a large Tarydium Plant, which the hero can not avoid going through. During the beginning of the story our MILTECH finds out only those facts, that the player already knows from the original campaign Na Pali is invaded by the Skaarj for the valuable material known as tarydium, and the enslaved natives, the Nali, are used in the Skaarj mines for primitive hard labor. Besides, there are some evidences of another shipwreck the Terran cargo ship TLV-Dovers implementing equipment supplies for the nearest prison moon. And even the slightest chance to find any survivors from that ship only pulls the protagonist forward on his way.
And his way lies further away from the Tarydium Plant to the sequence of the ancient-style locations (belonging to the Nali) focused on The Catacombs one of the main seats for the Nali Order. The Order plays important role for the Nali as a spiritual center and the heart of the resistance to alien oppressors, the demons from the skies.
Once the hero gets out of the Catacombs, he finally gets on the track of his UMS comrades, but sadly, all he finds is a broken shuttle and a couple of dead bodies Their weapons and other equipment is missing And theres a strange alien base near the crash site the so called Universal Complex, built by Mercenaries, another race of space invaders hungry for the planets natural resources.
After infiltrating the Complex, our heroic miltech finds himself in a manmade (actually, Merc-made) bleak desert the result of industrial activity carried on by green-blooded cyborgs. There are some more objects to be discovered nearby a smaller sealed base, ancient Nali crypt and a temple (with a very interesting
story behind it ), and then - the Skaarj field station connected to another outpost via the teleporter. That teleporter is going to serve the player as a gateway to the next episode of Another Reality.
This icy episode takes place in the frozen regions of Na Pali, where the chambers of Nali Order are hidden. Also, theres some information concerning Bodega Bay, presumably lying wrecked in pieces in this area, brought down by Prisoner 849.
The first location is the Skaarj outpost, mentioned before. This place is used by the sky demons to control the nearby Nali objects a fishermens village and a massive castle. Both places are to be visited by the protagonist on his way to Bodega Bay crash site. Once it is discovered, the player will have an opportunity to explore the twisted wreckage of the dead cruiser. Unfortunately, no fellow crew member can be found alive in this mess, as well as no functioning transport vessel, or even a safe shelter.
It may all seem useless, but never say die! The hero refuses to give up. And theres much more adventures waiting ahead. The next episode gives a new hope, and drags into new troubles, like following the steps of another survivor (finally! a chance to meet a HUMAN?!), facing the Skaarj Warlord, visiting an undercover Mercenary ship and taking part in the inevitable war conflict with the now masters of the planet And the outcome of the whole journey (both predictable and surprising ) awaits deep in the heart of their colony - the Second Mothership.
What is it? A twist of fate? Lack of alternatives? Or some high predestination? Everyone is free to think for himself and make his own conclusions. There is definitely something mystic and weird in the world of Na Pali, and answers to even most trivial questions can turn out to be sophisticated and unclear Perhaps, the same thoughts had been tearing apart Prisoner 849s mind, back then before we wonderfully iterated his desperate way to freedom "
We really hope that many of you will find the concept of our compaign interesting especially after checking the materials presented in our gallery and playing a demo-version. But now its time to speak about sad things. Its not a secret that sooner or later some difficulties may arise in such amateur projects which are usually based on enthusiasm of people involved. Unfortunately this is happening now. Its not that we werent ready or we face these difficulties for the first time. But its the worst time of all our 8 year development of Another Reality. Of course the enthusiasm isnt everlasting but the main problem is in absence of motivated people. Or to be more precise, the people who speak Russian. Russian-speaking community of Unreal is reducing drastically =(
Nevertheless creation of Another Reality is really important to us. Thats why we never stopped working on the mod and we dont stop now. Any temporary suspension of the work can become permanent which is nothing but the end of the project. Even if the pace of work is really unsatisfactory, we still continue hoping for better times and trying to find other potential team members willing to help, people, considering Another Reality interesting enough to spend their free time on it.
However naïve it may sound, but the development of the mod is important to us, and for the sake of the project we are ready to look naïve. Thats the reason why we repeat that we have already asked for help in that old forum topic, and God knows why we adressed only to the russian-speaking users. Well.. its quite an embarrassing situation. I presume the best solution is to apologize and to ask all of you for help again.
If this will be finished one day, I would play it for sure! thanks for creating such good stuff for an old game.

Level 11. The Skaarj Outpost.
Located in the 4th sector of the 6th zone, the outpost is placed near the territory belonging to Mercenaries (one more alien civilization exploiting the Nali and being independent of The Skaarj according to the AR storyline). The outpost serves as an observation point and provides control over the border areas. A teleporter has recently been set up there to communicate with the other outpost, which was given higher priority. Some emergency situation might have been the reason for that.
The level features a lot of heavy fighting with different types of the Skaarj. Thanks to the significant expansion of the armory our character is ready to give a sufficient rebuff.
According to the old-style Shooter games, the level contains some secret bonus areas. Unfortunately the level lacks a certain amount of scripts responsible for the adequate prisoners behavior. Ultimately a final battle marks the end of the level.

As it always was, the purpose of our project is still to create a high quality mission pack with a certain Unreal lore-friendly storyline, and what is the most important with the original atmosphere, made in the unique spirit of the game.
We continue to work on the project though it may look carried on too slow Yes, the progress may be not as fast as we wish it to be, but well never give up moving towards our goal.
What about the progress Actually, we have something to show you!
"Heavy Clouds", the 25th level of the campaign is an important part of the mods main story and overall walkthrough. Its a long-playing, deeply atmospheric map with a sort of gloomy and epic mood. It is designed so in order to make players feel the excitement of the forthcoming final events of the story. There are large terrains and industrial structures with underground tunnels, enemy's outposts and terryific views on the Mothership located near this area.
This video made by Unrealdoom, our project's lead developer, demonstrates fragments of the gaming process on this level. Hope you enjoy it!

By the way, Heavy Clouds is not the only level wed like to share with you in the nearest future. We plan to release a few playable NEW levels (a huge Industrial Merc Complex and Unreal97-style large desert called Bad Lands) in addition to the updated Beta-Demo pack.

Today we're going to present you a sort of a demo-version of a new Another Reality level, "Catacombs". It goes as sixth by number and plays a very important role in the whole story of our campaign. It was actually ment as one of the most remarkable places to visit! So it greatly differs from other levels in our mod and the original Unreal game/RtNP. The most apparent difference is the general lack of enemies.
This feature served as one of the main reasons to show the demo of this level 'Cause there's a number of maps with a traditional "shoot&run" gameplay in the playable AR beta, and we've decided not to upload any more of such in public access, giving the overview of the new maps by only sharing visual content, such as screenshots and short movies.
But here in the Catacombs the player can try a different role - to explore, behold, and solve some puzzles (not too many of those though, even less in the demo version).
We wish you good game! And hope you'll find this unusual gameplay format exciting enough, and suitable for Unreal, and of course, hope you find the way to solve the puzzles!

Alas, it's not that we've been really hurrying to share the news about the two of our new levels - Nali Castle 3 and Cryox2... Sorry , because we should - Cryox2 had been already finished several months ago. You can actually see some screenshots of this level below with the description of each following.
The Mercenary ship called Cryox 2 had been in development for more than four years. To be certain the work had been frozen for a long time (it seems that its name really speaks for itself =) ) . And in the end of the last year it was finished at last.

And concerning the icy castle, there's still a lot of work to do. But there are few views of it we can show right now. We wanted to present some look into Nali Castle 3 as well as the Mercs ship, that's why the presentation of Cryox 2 was postponed until we had pics to share.

Of course when speaking about Another Reality as a successor of the original Unreal traditions we had an idea of making our own castle level even on early stage of development. So when it came to the question of having our own Flyby intro, the answer just found itself. =)
So, this is the scene of flying around the Nali castle.
The last one, 23-Canyon, was actually ready in autumn 2014, but we decided to remake it 4 years ago (which meant deleting the old version). And here it is, the new Canyon is available in 2019.
This May we completed the basic tasks for creating the 6th level, Catacombs - the level one-third of which was available for a little run before last summer, at the 10th AR anniversary.

btw.: Feel free to grab the UnrealReduxFire.u from DmTundra 227. The package includes a customizable emitter with a HUGE amount of different fire textures which can be combined.
It's right. When creating some levels, we are largely inspired by the pre-release versions of Unreal =) In this case, the source, to a greater extent, was the tech-demo of 1995.I like the mixing of all the different styles. If I had a dream about Unreal betas, it would probably look like that.
This level is one of the special ones in our campaign, I think. Our team did not take up the creation of these catacombs for a long time, for example, levels 1 to 5 were created much earlier, as well as level 7, by the way. Although some of those levels are not inferior to the catacombs in size and fullness. But we believed that this level, at number 6, would become especially important for the entire Another Reality campaign, so we were in no hurry to start it.
Thematically, this level is a temple of the extinct Nali culture (their religious views were somewhat different from what we can observe among other representatives of this people). In terms of the gameplay, Soledad2 will simultaneously check the players, both for attentiveness (you don't have to wander a lot in search of a way out, but it will definitely be useful to recognize suspicious places with traps in advance), and the ability to emerge victorious from the battle (the variety of enemies and the number of available weapons here high enough).
This level is the 10th in a row in the overall campaign plot.
