Sound Problems XP
Hi,
Unreal is doing well, all grathics work fine ....
but the sound change the speed if i walk.
Its sound very funny, as long as i stand the sound is totaly ok but in the moment i walk it played too fast (in the elevater as well).
any ideas?
THX Daniel

Re: Sound Problems XP
Be a little more specific. What version of unreal are you using? 226, 227? Open AL, FMod, Galaxy? Without more info it is impossible to give an answer.

Uhmmmm...I know this is a very old topic but I had a similar problem recently so I decided to revive this topic.
I know the perfect solution if you use an nVidia grafix card.
It's pretty damn simple:
Just go to nVidia Control Panel, go to "3D Settings" section, go to application-based settings, select Unreal.exe (browse for it if it's not on the list) and put everything on ultra high.
DON'T FORGET TO TURN ON VERTICAL SYNCHRONIZATION!
Hope that solves it.

Thats called Doppler. If you encounter this effect you are recommended to switch your sound driver to opposing one (FMod if you have AL or AL if you have FMod). Another way is to disable doppler \ set it's coefficient to minimum.

Re: Sound Problems XP
Lol I use Galaxy driver and I got this "doppler" cr@p on every driver. So I used the nVidia control panel, pumped everything to max and it worked fine.

Re: Sound Problems XP
It happens only on newer machines. If your PC is too good (LOL), pull out your grafix card and switch to integrated. (LOLx2)

I dont see any relation of grafix card to sound here.

Re: Sound Problems XP
With all stuff you do and with VSync you simply lag your game, so it will process data and sounds at lower frequency. I see a relation.

And if I'm using dual-core CPU (I'm not), I should go to Set Affinity > CPU 1.

Re: Sound Problems XP
No, don't fixed.227 fixes this already iirc
1. In properties of the file Ulreal.exe to set compatibility Windows NT
2. Options -> Advanced options -> Audio -> ALAudio -> DopplerFactor = 0
3. Restart game

And whoever the hell are you, welcome to the Oldunreal Forums! =)

Re: Sound Problems XP
If need use Galaxy thenAnd your "fix" wont work if you are not using ALAudio.
In unreal.ini find [Engine.Engine]
Change AudioDevice=ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem to AudioDevice=Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem
or
Options -> Advanced Options -> Drivers -> AudioDevice -> Galaxy
All!
Compatibility Windows NT - not required
DopplerSpeed and DopplerFactor - default
If set galaxy, anything else to do it is not necessary
And on my integrated soundcard the sound became better. And on Fmod - best.
Fmod is switched as galaxy.

Re: Sound Problems XP
Setting Doppler off without NT compatibility mode doesn't work... Yet FMOD works just as nice!
Is there EAX on FMOD by the way?
