When games offered you a good singleplayer mode or a good multiplayer mode, Unreal Tournament managed to be an exceptional multiplayer FPS with bots smart enough to make playing it by yourself actually enjoyable.

as opposed to call of duty where the singleplayer campaign sucks and the bots are trash LOL
not to mention the bland multiplayer with like 6 maps

The bots in Unreal and Unreal Tournament were outstanding for its time. I loved having a true multiplayer-like experience back in the days where I had to pay-per-minute for dial-up internet access.

Still back then and still today I regret that Unreal Tournament became a separate game instead of an expansion for Unreal. It would be wonderful to have it all integrated into one big game that combines an award-winning single player adventure with adrenaline-punping PvP.

But commercially I understand the choice Epic made with the separate game and I think they never regretted it.

Most coop mods fix that by...
-spawning other players _around_ existing ones
-delaying spawning of another player on an occupied spot to avoid spawnfrag
-spawning players over one another with actor collision disabled to circumvent spawnkilling
-some other funny method...
