Log simply stops @ "Bound to Galaxy.dll" (if "UseDirectSound" is set to true and so a3d.dll is loaded by the process. If set to false a3d.dll is NOT loaded and game starts normally).

I think what Casey means is for you to upload your log file (unreal.log) to a certain website designed for pastes....

eDiT: whoops! Sounds like because the game f Smileycked over it won't flush the log to disk. In other words, your screenshot approach is Correct. You get a crusty chocolate chip cookie that's been under my car's seat for the better part of the year as a reward.

The problem is the same on another system (Win7 64 + Audigy 2 ZS), game starts but hangs bounding Galaxy.dll (and so a3d.dll)

WEll I can confirm that it crappity smacks over right there on my home machine, and I can confirm via galaxys source that it uses aureal a3d 2

but can't get the debugger attached since I can't build galaxyaudiosubsystem with it.

Smirf will have to look on this one. I assume this may be because the wrapper isn't feature complete.

You may have to write this off and just use a sound card with alchemy or an eax emulator,  though truthfully I don't know what A3D even does for unreal.

EDIT:

Galaxy Player GUI (I lost the source to this by accidentally formatting a partition  I shouldn't have, oops) loads Galaxy.dll with this aureal thing installed and has no problems.

Going by galaxy's source, a3d only activates upon using 3d positional sound, and galaxy player gui only plays back audio, so I have no idea if it's actually using it/loading at all.

edit2: looks like galaxy player gui is using winMM and not dsound for compatability reasons, so a3d is not loaded.

edit3: hey I decompiled galaxy player gui and now I can crappity smack around with this.

So in the galaxy source, glxInitA3D2() return GLXERR_NOERR. So supposedly it initialized A3D.

Edit: No idea what this means for the long term though. I assume that GalaxyAudioSubsystem is trying to play a sound and A3D doesn't like it. I might screw around with this later.]

EDit2: I should clarify

I have the source to the audio device API (think FMOD or ALAudio) which was provided by the creator of galaxy. But I don't have GalaxyAudioSubsystem, which is unreal's implementation of galaxy. This is much like FMODAudioSubsystem implements FMOD.

edit3: looks like galaxy only decided that A3D was available.

Uh.. I've had galaxy source for several years now, and Smirf does too. only the A3D wrapper is new that I knew of, anyway.

I got galaxy player GUI to load A3D.dll officially using listdll and I can get sound playback.

Whether or not this is actually using the internals of A3D is unknown, but it looks like this is an Official Unreal Bug Candidate, but I know for a fact that real A3D hardware/dlls used to work. This is probably a bug in the A3D implementation, something Galaxy/Unreal takes advantage of that wasn't properly coded or maybe not implemented at all. Oops.

don't get me wrong there, my first card I was using at home was an aureal as well and I bought only for Unreal and this card a 5.1 sound system with digital sound processor. So forgive me that what I say: Aureal is dead, A3D is dead, let it die already, it was great using it and I enjoyed every minute but at some point it ends.
Fortunately we have plenty alternatives nowadays, I won't try to debug this.

I know I know! But I really love wrappers of all kind, so I just installed the A3D one for fun and found this bug :p (I use Unreal to test a myriad of D3D wrappers too Cheesy )
I'm really happy with OpenAL today :p
