recommended dsl/cable comapny

I've just moved from Maryland to Florida, and after 12 years of dealing with dial-up and crappy wireless internet (I couldn't get cable/dsl in my area) I finally live in an area where I can. So can anyone recommend me a good cheap company? The only requirements are cheap price (looking for 30 or under a month) and something that supports game server hosting.

Heh, funny you should mention this, as in my house we're going to change the ISP soon enough. But in Lithuania it's a uniquely good situation. We are one of the few countries where optical fibre internet is mainstream. A few years ago when I was living in another flat, we had said fibre internet, and it was neat. 100 Mb/s download speed within the country. After moving, cable internet was set up here (as the cable ISP, C-Gates, had pretty decent prices when combined with digital TV). So right now it's at 4 Mb/s. But it makes no sense to keep using it, as the cable discount (as well as the contract) is nearly over, and the previous ISP, TEO, is offering another discount for setting up fibre internet in this flat. So soon enough I'll be back to those 100 Mb/s, perfect for uploading all the full HD YouTube videos.

But yea, I hear that the internet situation overseas is not nearly as good as we have here.

Hey Snakebite. I would recommend going with Cox/Comcast because they seem to have good rates & bundles w/ TV if you're into that. I recall seeing their basic net around $35 & they don't have caps (my area, could be diff in yours).

Two companies to avoid like the devil: AT&T and Time Warner Cable.

In short, TWC is rude, has crappy service (I experienced outages at least 2 times a month!) and very overpriced. In my area they were $60/mo for shitty 6Mb down 0.5Mb up. Additionally, being cable, the bandwidth fluctuates with usage by other people on the same line, meaning that at certain times of the day it's literally as bad as dial up. Ridiculous!

AT&T is actually OK except for the fact that they like to keep checking if you're actually paying attention to your bills and will hike your bill up randomly unless you call and complain, in which case they will roll it back. I've had this happen at least 4 times over the course of the year. Other than that, good service, BUT they have a bandwidth cap. This may meet your server hosting needs, but you will have to always be aware of how close you are to your cap, and knowing AT&T, they will plan on lowering the cap in the years to come.

Thanks Cube, I did find AT&T dsl xtreme 6.0 in my area, which has a 150 gb cap. And it also said it was ideal for internet gaming, so I guess i'm going to give them a try. And i'll make sure they don't raise my bill or they'll get an unpleasant call lol.

I thought you have FTTx everywhere in USA...

P. S. Avoid ADSL if possible.

I can recommend ZeelandNet, Ziggo and XS4ALL, but I'm afraid they're not available in your area. :p

Hmm, that rings a bell. Wasn't that where Michiel van den Bos had an e-mail address on, or something?

Ah... thanks buster and hyz... it seems like the only thing I can get in my area is Road Runner, which is a branch of TWC, but people I called in my area seemed to be really nice. Only downside is it's 53 a month for the lowest plan.
