I am testing on the flyby of Return to Na Pali. I look at the water pool to the left of the start. It is just moving ludicrously fast.

Your card is more then enough to play Unreal maxed out with no FPS drops, especially around something simple like dynamic lights. I think D3D is causing your lag. I have a feeling alot of the new 227 features (like the particle system) are optimized for OpenGL.

Set the FrameRateLimit= to 60 and see if that fixes it.

Still did nothing when changing the frl.

Also, Dynamic Lights seem less pronounced. Then again that may be because my game is darker. I will have to check that out. Sun lighting seems more pronounced in your version, yet sun shadows are gone.

Why would your game be darker? I believe some of the lighting is brighter in my config because of OneXBlending=FALSE. Set it to TRUE and see if it looks like yours now. Could you post your settings so I can look through them?

That did it!

FrameRateLimit also worked after further testing. Apparently I viewed everything as too fast after doing that for a minute or so. Fuzziness only exists on certain water areas and it does it on any settings (seems to be some effect).

Only thing I notice different for the worse now is coronas seem less pronounced in yours. Look at the flyby, you can barely see them, whilst in my original they are pretty pronounced.

It is darker due to my brightness setting, nothing more. I had it set pretty dark to give it a darker look (seems I prefer brighter now).

I don't know how to post settings, well I do to a degree but cannot get the format right.

I notice when you increase the FrameRateLimit, the water and the torch flames will animate faster. I also noticed that if you set the game above 150 frames it will throw off the timing of certain things (like the flyby) and it will zoom right through it lol. After testing the FrameRateLimit in Unreal and Deus Ex, 150 is the sweet spot for highest frame rate without speed glitches unless you can't stand fast moving water and fast torch animations lol. I can't imagine what setting would involve the drawing of coronas. That seems like a question Smirftsch or GreatEmerald might know something about. I recommend you keep your brightness at default level, for any game (unless you're playing professionally online and need to see in every dark corner lol). Only if your monitors brightness is broken or something like that, would I change my in-game brightness setting.

About posting your settings, you can either copy and paste them from your INI, or do it the cool way and hit the "code" button in the forum menu above the text box where we type.

Yeah, I used to set it lower to create a better contrast. Seems to just wash the colors out. I can actually see a bit in Demon Crater now!

Also, code button still not working for C++, so I put it in sql (I was hoping you would say something different than what I worried about). Coronas definitely look better on the flyby, I can't even see them unless I am really paying attention on yours. Must be something simple.

Are those settings you posted the ones with the small coronas or the normal sized ones? I would like to see your settings that produce the normal sized coronas so I can compare with mine and narrow down the setting.

I just tested a new defaulted config with OpenGL and D3D with no settings changed. My coronas look the same with my config and the default one with OGL or D3D. Could you post a picture of your coronas so I can compare with mine?

deathstalker, to put things into a plain code block, use the tags "
" and "
".

Sorry bout that, my internet decided to crash. I gave you the wrong code (Had everything open at once and mixed them up).  So ignore that, it is just yours with the changes mentioned previously. This is the correct version (which I was trying to post when my internet went down due to internet service being down for a couple hours).

Also, I tested my old version a bit more and took a ton of screenshots to compare. Turns out that the coronas aren't different like I thought, it must have just been the angles I was looking at it was different. I have had a better look at everything since my internet went down and find everything to look a lot better. Disregard everything I said (Once again I get proven I am a noob with Unreal).

GreatEmerald, oh, so it's just like C++ coding! Seems to work fine Smiley. Thanks for the help.

I just posted the ultra high settings configuration on the wiki. But in the process, I accidentally deleted the form information. I'm so sorry. Is there a backup?

There are some settings that the user will want to customize themselves. They are marked with three asterisks (***).

Don't worry, this is a wiki : I just reverted the page to its former state.

You must construct additional pylons.

I have tweaked the INI once more on the wiki, and have given instructions on how to set certain commands to the correct and best value. These command are marked with three asterisks (***). The latest change involves MaxLogTextureSize, MinLogTextureSize, MaxLogVOverU, and MaxLogUOverV. To set these settings to there best possible values, you must search for your Unreal.log, thats located in your Unreal\System folder. In the log, it contains your video cards specifications and includes your cards values for these settings. There is a good example on the wiki that will walk you through it and show you how to find them. Its really easy.

Thank you hellkeeper for fixing the wiki page I deleted.

Here is a link to the INI:

UseFragmentProgram=False (*** If you want shadows, set this to TRUE ***)
UseVertexProgram=False (*** If you want shadows, set this to TRUE ***)

Thats a bit weird. 227h and above don't even have UseVertexProgram anymore and the shadows work with UseFragmentProgram enabled and disabled. Older versions again have no shadows so...?
Also it is a bit misleading, one can think this would enable shadows Smiley

A small side note for SmoothMaskedTextures, its not directly AntiAliasing but it "uses" AA:
//Smooth masked textures bit controls alpha blend for masked textures
     m_smoothMaskedTexturesBit = 0;
     m_useAlphaToCoverageForMasked = false;
     if (SmoothMaskedTextures) {
           //Use alpha to coverage if using AA and enough samples
           if (m_usingAA && (m_initNumAASamples >= 4)) {
                 m_useAlphaToCoverageForMasked = true;
           }
           else {
                 m_smoothMaskedTexturesBit = PF_Masked;
           }
     }

Sometimes you have to lose a fight to win the war.

When I tried the shadows in Unreal, they looked great. I just want a more authentic experience and choose to disable shadows since there weren't any originally.

I just tried shadows with UseFragmentProgram=FALSE and they still worked. So now I'm confused as to why deathstalkers shadows stopped working with my settings.

I think I figured it out. Under my WinDrv settings, I have decals turned off. I'm pretty sure you need decals enabled for shadows, so he must of copied my WinDrv settings and OpenGL settings (which have shadows and decals disabled) and used them. I'll go change the wiki INI now.
