Patch question
09/15/11 at 07:54:21

Hello,

I own the original Unreal, and the stand alone expansion,

Neither are the gold version, just clarifying this.

Which patch do I use ?

Also, do I install the 226 final patch before the new 227 custom one ?

You own the add-on Return to NaPali expansion, you can use the Gold patch. Smiley

You don't need to instal 226f beforehand, either.

Thank you, going to rock out to this before Gears of War 3,

This is my favorite game out of 20 years of gaming, still own the retail soundtrack I bought in 1997, before I discovered umx plug ins for winamp.

but you should have version 224 at least. If you are having separate versions (Unreal Classic + Expension set) you also need to make sure that the RTNP maps are in a subdirectory "UPak" of the Maps folder (I'm not sure anymore if its there by default...)

Yeah, that's what I have.

I bought the original when it came out, then the expansion a year later or something.

I just installed RTNP and it wanted to install to a stand alone directory, what should I do ?

The patch is also telling me I need 226 installed.

Edit - So, I patched each version individually to 226b, then tried to install 227 to unreal, it doesn't recognize that's it's installed even though I've typed the exact dir path to it.

Edit 2 - 227 recognized my installation of NaPali when I directed it to it's directory, which is it's own directory outside of Unreal.

Edit - 3  holy poop, Unreal is running at 1300fps using software rasterization.

ow, so I set it to 226 as minimum to be on the safe side. Drainbamaged me forgot, was thinking I set it 224. Sorry.

Software? Why would one use Software? Smiley
But what is UseCPU set to in your Unreal.ini? It should ensure that Unreal is only running on one Core and avoid the multicore issues which are usually to blame for this behavior....

Dual core processor ?

I have an i5-2500K @ 4.5ghz, that's a Sandy Bridge quad-core, second best processor out right now, best version is the i7-2600k with hyper-threading, which doesn't benefit games, yet. I'll soon have the proc at a stable 5ghz.

That makes sense.

Because Unreal is still using 226 which means It's not using the UT style menu that makes you select the rendering method before launching the game, and I launched it just to test, so of course it was using software rasterisation. It was moving so fast through the castle demo, it was like fast forwarding a dvd.

That entry doesn't exist since I'm only using 226.

Everything is running several times to fast because you have a multi-core processor. That's a known bug of unreal-engine games with dual/quad cores. That's what's causing the >1000 fps and ridiculous speed. 227 fixes that.

Yup, I know, I was just laughing at how fast it was during initial startup.

Fixed the problem of not being able to install 227 to unreal.

Since the 227 gold patch recognized my installation of RTNP, I tried the classic version of 227 and it successfully patched.

Time to rock out.

The mouse input feels off though, I have acceleration and smoothing disabled, and enabled direct input, also increased the FoV, feels better, not perfect though.

Edit - The UT style menu doesn't show up for classic unreal 227, but, it shows up for RTNP.

Direct input is actually an ancient implementation from UT and causes a lot of strange issues

Alright, thought that was the old name for raw input.

Raw input would be nice maybe, but I never found the time to work myself deep enough into it to implement it.
Also it never seemed to be vital, people maybe got used to the way it is and always was...
