In short, XMP is something like Vehicle Capture The Flag with elements from other gametypes. Each team has a device called an Artifact Node that holds 2 Artifacts. Your mission is to take them from your enemy and bring them to your own node for a total of 4 Artifacts. However, you can only register an Artifact in your node when you have enough energy. You get energy by hacking Energy Sources that you can find on the maps. You can also hack Deploy Points, that way you can spawn there. Energy is also important because if a team's energy is 0, they automatically lose. It is also required for a lot of things, even double jumping.

There are three classes in the game: 1) Ranger, the lightest class, they can move very fast, but have a low about of shields. They get a Sniper Rifle, a Magnum pistol, a Shock Lance and a Grenade Launcher with Frag and Smoke grenades. With enough energy, they can also create Health Packs. 2) Tech, the medium class. They specialise in hacking things - it takes half the time to hack them than for the other classes. They get a Combat Assault Rifle, a Shotgun and EMP and gas grenades. They can create Shield Packs and turrets with enough energy. 3) Gunner, the heavy class. They are slow but have a lot of shields. They get a Rocket Launcher, Incendiary and Concussion grenades. They can create ammo packs and mines with enough energy.
