I tried the UT3 weapons in UT2004 and they worked.
But I cant try UT3 itself because of my PC specifications!
Probably the KI is abit better if not alot.
Now I heard that UT2004 allows easier modding
but arent there actually difficult alpha layers
on the skins and arent the native models
too characteristic for skinning anyhow ...?

Wait... UT3 weapons were ported for UT2k4?
What about porting them to UT99,along with the hoverboard?

The weaps and the hoverboard were the _ONLY_ things that
really got me interested...

Except if you actually take time to install MapMixer and Blossom, after which most of these issues go away. Sure, vanilla version is a far cry from being good, but with mods it starts to shine.
UT3 has VCTF-Suspense.

This confirms my point: you have to download a couple of community-made stuff in order to get the game playable. And then you have a game which is a spin-off of UT2004 with no outstanding point to justify buying it. You get a game that is not bad, but Unreal was always better than just "not bad".

As for VCTF-Suspense, even if it's played constantly, it is sub-par on both gameplay and visual level, when Face had its visuals, Rankin and Torlan their gameplay and Deck had both.

No, the game is playable as it is. Installing mods makes it particularly good. And the main advantage of UT3 over others is graphics and vehicles. Also deathmatch gameplay. And I don't see how Suspense fails on either graphics or gameplay.

UT3 looks like a mix of bliding colours out of the box. I like things when I shoot Sad
As for vehicles, see above.
About Suspense : it does not fail, it's average.

Anyway, you don't agree with me, I am thus forced to conclud that you are less intelligent since you are wrong. Indeed, I wouldn't believe what I believe if I thought it was wrong, which means what I think is true, so you are wrong as you don't agree with me. Ahah, silly you.  Smiley

You do realise that there is an option "Enable Bloom and Depth of Field" under Advanced Options, don't you? Wink

IMO, 2k4 is great out of the box if you like cheap effects, bland weapons, and using one of the many hitscan weapons to hit a jumping enemy from across a map.

It's great for mods, though.  Wink

The general design of the game is a problem in itself. It's not only the post-proc effects Sad It's not limited to UT3, but the "Everything shines" effect simply kills visibility.

I don't get any of that when post-processing is disabled. Care to show us a screenshot of what you mean?

Right now, I can't, but a simpel google search for UT3 will return mountains of results : everything seems to be made of shiny medical plastic. Somebody found the specular channel and decided do put it into OVERDRIVE mode.

EDIT : I tried to reinstall the game, it keeps crashing on startup, I moved on.

If it's something they did on purpose, then it could be, but that's not a fault of the engine itself.

Oh, I never blamed the engine, it is flawless : high end graphics, all possible features, easy to use, well documented, easily available etc...
I'm blaming the game they did with it, that is the decision they made regarding the gameplay and art design.
Then again, this is mostly an issue of different tastes.

Reading this leads me to the conclusion that EPIC themselfes
rate UT2004 as perfect and made the new just as a luxury addition.
Isnt it also the same engine btw ...?

Well of course not, it's the UnrealEngine 3, when UT2004 uses the 2.5 one.

I don't think UT2004 is considered perfect by Epic, but I think it was so great in its content, community, support and was such a platform for mods/content creation that UT3 was more or less dommed not to live up to the expectations.

However it's true Epic didn't push UT3 as hard as it pushed UT2004 (IIRC, the bonus pack including face had no levelshot for its maps etc., which gives the impression that it was rushed).

Well, UT2004 was essentially a bonus pack for UT2003, so yea, they pushed it really hard there - UT2004 ended up with the content worth 2 games and that's not even counting ECE content, MegaPack and things like CBP1 and CBP2. Plus mods for UT2003 were mostly compatible with UT2004, not even talking about maps. It's quite difficult to beat that without UT4 being an expansion pack for UT3.

And indeed, UT1 was originally an expansion pack for Unreal, again with levels from Unreal working in UT and mods only needing rather small changes.

Better engines are nice but how it still is is unreal a bot game.
The online matches are unbearable because of the 50%+ hacks users.
They autoaim instakill superdodge that its anything else but gameplay.
Those freaks cant ever really be stopped or even banned.
I think future gametypes must deal with this or the online mode
is absolute waste of time not to mention that annoying ... .

UT2004 was less of a UT2003 Bonus pack than UT2003 was an expensive beta for UT2004 Wink

To be honest, I was expecting a UT "3.5" to be released shortly after UT3 - judging by its mixed reviews, many bad reactions among players etc - with altered the gameplay, added a lot of new map, characters, weapons and gametypes as UT2004 did.

I haven't seen anyone like that any time while playing the games. Sure, people online are really skilled (probably due to the fact that all new players are discouraged by all the pros beating them every single time), but I don't think they cheat. Though I guess many of them like all that UTComp stuff that makes players look like torchlights and turn their graphics detail to the minimum, turn off music to hear footsteps etc. Which isn't exactly fair to normal users who enjoy the atmosphere of the game as opposed to shooting a torchlight repeatedly.
