What map is that? From the looks of the picture it appears that the square is part of the map.

its the first level..
I thought it was called Unreal.unr
apparently not.. anyways its about halfway through the map where the wire hangs from the ceiling and can sting you.
here is the guy or what's left of him looking odd also.

Ok in those shots I see what you mean. It looks to me like a missing texture or a lighting issue. I'm currently upgrading my rig but I will check myself once I'm done. For now though I would try loading the map in the editor to see if there is indeed missing textures. I believe the 1st map is called vortexrikers

holy smokes...(in other words)...
Unreal linux doesn't seem to want to run unless I am on the LAN...
haven't checked Unreal windows.
here is a demorec I made of the whole situation:
http://nightmare.endoftheinternet.org/Unreal/demo.dem
Unreal linux doesn't want to playdemo...
if it comes down to it I don't mind tapping the monitor lightly.

if you would have posted this in the linux section or 227bugs I'd seen it earlier.
Well, this lighting bug is already known and located somewhere in the renderer. Unfortunately I was unable yet to find the cause of it, it seems to be some compiler problem. But working on it.

What do you mean with "Unreal linux doesn't seem to want to run unless I am on the LAN..." ?

Demorec and demoplay were not really changed or fixed since the initial 227 release and I'm not sure if it will (means for Windows and Linux version). It will be a lot of work and there are many other tools who can do this job easily if wanted.

I posted here because I thought it was a Driver issue.
and what I mean is I disconnected from the LAN
ran my system stand alone and Unreal didn't appear I could only hear a little bit of wind
so its a compile issue with shadows, thats cool at least you know about it.
I can stop tapping the monitor.
thanks Smirftsch.
